NEWBURGH, NY - The CMSV men's basketball team took on Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Mary's on Wednesday night, defeating the Knights 77-58 to improve to 8-9 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
The Dolphins had five players reach double figures in points, led by
Jamir Ferebee, who scored 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
Trevor Johnson scored 13 points, while
Mike Mulligan,
Andrew Curiel and
Matthew Sowah chipped in with 10 points apiece. Mulligan also grabbed 10 rebounds, notching his second double double in the past three games.
CMSV led for the majority of the game, trailing early on in the first half. Ferebee hit a three with 14:14 left in the first half to put the Dolphins up 12-9 and the team would not trail for the remainder of the game.
After the Ferebee three, the Dolphins would continue to grow their lead, increasing it to as much as 17 points thanks to a 24-8 run with 4:28 left in the half, getting contributions from their top-5 scorers.
The Knights whittled the lead down to 11 entering halftime. Over the first 20 minutes, the Dolphins shot 50% from the field.
The Dolphins continued to make shots in the second half, as the team shot 42% from the field over the final 20 minutes. They continued to increase their lead, eventually getting it to 22 points after a
Jesse Regina layup made it 58-36 with 7:33 to go.
The Knights never mounted a serious comeback after that as the Dolphins were able to work the offense and create good shots to secure the victory.
CMSV returns to action Saturday afternoon when they will travel to Brooklyn to take on St. Joseph's College at 2pm.
