Dolphins Can't Overcome Slow 1st Half; Fall To Sarah Lawrence

Sophomore Andrew Curiel Notches 1st Career Double-Double

RIVERDALE, NY -  The CMSV men's basketball team took on Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon, in a Skyline Conference matchup. The Gryphons defeated the Dolphins 84-75, dropping CMSV's record to 7-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Despite having four players reach double figures in points, the Dolphins were only able to shoot 37% from the field and 30% from three point land. Mike Mulligan and Jesse Regina led the way, each scoring 15 points, while Andrew Curiel notched his first career double double, tallying 13 points and grabbing a career high 14 rebounds. Trevor Johnson added 10 points.

Sarah Lawrence came to play early in the first half jumping out to an 11-2 lead less than five minutes into play, making four of their first six shots. They would increase their lead to 13-3 a few minutes later but the Dolphins responded going on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes, highlighted by three straight 3-pointers by Kahlil Shorter and Regina.

The teams continued to trade baskets for the next five minutes but with the score 23-22, the Gryphons would end the half on a 19-4 run to take a 42-26 lead into halftime.

CMSV continued to struggle to find their offensive rhythm as Sarah Lawrence maintained a double-digit lead for the first 10+ minutes of the 2nd half. With the score 59-47, the Dolphins put a run together to cut the lead to 61-58, with 7:56 to go, after a layup by Mulligan.

The Dolphins put one more run together to cut the lead to two points after a Jamir Ferebee jumper made it 67-65,  but that would be as close as CMSV would get over the final 4:12 of the game.

The team returns to action Wednesday January 20, when they will take on Mount Saint Mary's in a key Skyline Conference game at 8pm.
