New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team saw its losing slide reach five games on Wednesday afternoon following 5-4 and 13-5 losses on the road at Hunter. Sophomore
Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) finished the twinbill with four RBI and struck out seven batters in game one.

Mount Saint Vincent fell behind early the opener when Hunter plated a pair of runs in the home half of the second inning. The Hawks later opened a 5-0 lead in the fifth with three more runs on three hits. Stafanie Abolt and Taylor Crofts produced run scoring base hits in the second and Briana Monaco drove in a pair of runs in the three-run fifth.

The Dolphins rallied in the top of the sixth, getting all four of their runs in the game on four hits. The Dolphins took advantage of two Hunter errors in the frame and received extra base hits from Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) and
Kierstyn Bourdeau (Cheshire, Conn.). Heizer drove in
Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) and
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) with a double and later scored on Bourdeau's second home run of the season.

Mount Saint Vincent out the tying run on base on a two-out single from Rachel Hezier (Vacaville, Calif.), but could not get the run into scoring position.

Dalton finished the game 2-for-4 for the Dolphins with a run scored with
Mackenzie Heizer and Bourdeau each finishing with an extra base hit, a run scored and two RBI. Davis added a hit in four at-bats and a run scored for the Mount.

Abolt led Hunter with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate in game one and Monaco went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Mackenzie Heizer suffered the loss in the circle in game one, working 5.0 innings and recording seven strikeouts. She surrendered five runs on nine hits in the game and allowed a pair of walks. Sara Beck earned the win and moved to 5-0 with 5.1 innings of work that included five strikeouts. Erika Colangelo picked up the save after working 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and recording two strikeouts.

In game two, both teams scored three runs in their first at-bat and the Dolphins took a 4-3 lead in the top of the third inning when a sacrifice fly from
Mackenzie Heizer that chased home Dalton. Heizer added a run scoring base hit in the first inning, joining
Rachel Heizer and Bourdeau who also knocked in runs in the Mount's first at-bat.

Mount Saint Vincent's lead was short lived in game two as the Hawks plated six runs in the home half of the third frame and four more in the bottom of the fifth to close out the scoring. Monaco drove in a pair of runs with a double in the third frame for Hunter and Victoria Slavik connected on a two-run home run in the fifth.

Dalton recorded two more hits in game two for Mount Saint Vincent, including her third double of the season, and added two runs scored.
Rachel Heizer finished game two 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, home run and two RBI.
Mackenzie Heizer drove in two more runs in game two and holds the team lead in RBI with 15.

Monaco finished game two 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI and was one of five Hunter players with multiple hits. Klavik went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Hawks.

Rachel Heizer took the game two loss for the Dolphins, working 3.0 innings and giving up eight earned runs on 12 hits. Danielle Zurek picked up the complete game win for Hunter, allowing five runs on nine hits.

Following Wednesday's sweep, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 5-14 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to conference play on Thursday when they take on Sarah Lawrence. The home set will be played in Bronxville starting at 3:30 p.m.
