Men’s Volleyball Travels To Top-Seeded Kean To Open Skyline Conference Tournament

Dolphins making second straight appearance in league tournament

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team will make its second straight appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament on Thursday night when it travels to top-seeded #5 Kean. For those who cannot attend the 8:00 p.m. match in Union, N.J., Live Stats and Video will be available.
 
History
The College of Mount Saint Vincent will make its second appearance in the league tournament in as many seasons under head coach Nelson Kwok. The Mount was eliminated from the conference tournament in the first round in 2014 by Ramapo and since the conference starting awarded an NCAA Tournament berth in 2012 the Dolphins are 0-1 in the league tournament.
 
A Look At The Dolphins
Mount Saint Vincent enters tonight's match with a 16-9 overall record and has posted the second winning season under Nelson Kwok. The Mount is currently on a season-high four match winning streak that includes conference victories over Yeshiva and Sage.
 
Sophomore Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.) leads the Mount heading into Thursday's contest in kills with 162 and service aces with 31 and is hitting .296 on the season. Cucullu is coming off a Skyline Conference Player of the Week award after posting 16 kills and hitting .565 in the regular season finale against CCNY.
 
Senior Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) leads the team in hitting percentage at .375 and has amassed a team-high 69 total blocks. Holiday has been named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week twice in 2015 and is third on the team with 152 kills.
 
 Senior James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) is one of three players with at least 100 assists on the season and leads the way with 354, averaging better than seven helpers per set. Sophomore T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) paces the Dolphins through 25 matches with 176 digs.
 
Scouting Kean
Kean is searching for its fourth straight conference crown and enters Thursday's action at 29-4 overall and is ranked fifth nationally in the latest AVCA Poll. The Cougars went a perfect 14-0 in Skyline Conference play in 2015, dropping just two sets in league play, including one to the Dolphins on March 7.
 
The Cougars have had five different players earn Skyline Conference Player of the Week Awards in 2015, including Bez Arslani who has won the award three times. Arslani leads Kean with 298 kills and is hitting .314 on the season. Ron Dunn is averaging 9.42 assists through 31 matches in 2015 for the Cougars and Tommy Rosario paces the squad with 94 total blocks.
 
Kean has won nine of its last 10 outings coming into play on Thursday, with the lone loss coming on April 4 to #1 Stevens.  
 
The Series
Since the start of the 2012 season, Mount Saint Vincent is 0-8 against Kean and has won just two sets. In 2015, the Mount fell to the Cougars 3-1 on March 7 and 3-0 on March 22.
 
What's Next
The winner of tonight's match will take on the winner of the second semifinal on Saturday at the highest remaining seed. The other match tonight features New Jersey City University and Ramapo.
