Mount Saint Vincent Suffers Two Non-Conference Losses At Staten Island

Nesensohn records six hits over doubleheader

Staten Island, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team lost a non-conference doubleheader at Staten Island on Thursday, falling by scores of 7-4 and 15-7. Freshman Matthew Nesensohn (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished the day with six hits, including four in the opener.
 
After falling behind 2-0, the Mount got on the board in the third and evened the score at 3-3 in the fourth. Steven Giustino (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) drove home Nesensohn to get the Dolphins to within 3-2 and later scored the tying run on a throwing error.
 
The Mount pulled in front for the first time in the game in the fifth when Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) singled home Nesensohn to five Mount Saint Vincent a brief 4-3 lead.
 
Trailing by a run, Staten Island plated four runs in the sixth inning to post the come-from-behind victory. Staten Island took advantage of two hits and three Mount Saint Vincent errors in the inning. The tying run came home on a fielder's choice with the big blow in the inning come on an Elijah Rodriguez two-run double.
 
Nesensohn finished off a perfect day at the plate 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Weber finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) doubled and drove in a run.
 
Nicholas Recarte (Hackensack, N.J.) took a no decision in game one after working 5.1 innings, allowing there earned runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out four for the Dolphins. Freshman Sideeq Ali (Apopka, Fla.) suffered the loss in relief, allowing an unearned run in 0.2 innings pitched.
 
Mount Saint Vincent scored three runs in its first two at-bats in game two, but saw Staten Island plate 11 runs in its first three at-bats to open an early 11-3 lead. Joe Palmieri and Glenn Glennerster each drove in two runs in a four run first inning for Staten Island.
 
Mount Saint Vincent plated four runs in the fourth inning to slice its deficit to 11-7, but Staten Island plated four more runs in the sixth to close out the scoring in the game. In the four run fourth for the Dolphins, Nesensohn drove in two runs with first career triple.
 
Nesensohn finished game two 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI with Senisi going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Nicholas Pace (Cranford, N.J.) tripled for the Dolphins and Weber doubled for the Mount. Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) scored twice for the Mount, going 1-for-1 at the plate with a pair of walks.
 
Sophomore Robert Negron (Bronx, N.Y.) took the game two loss, allowing eight runs on three hits in 1.0 inning. Juan Brito (Harlem, N.Y.) worked 4.0 innings in relief, allowing six hits and five earned runs.
 
Following Thursday's sweep, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 4-13 overall. Next up for Mount Saint Vincent is a non-conference twinbill at King's (Pa.). First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
