Guerra records three hits against Sage

Newburgh, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team saw its run in the Skyline Conference Tournament end on Saturday afternoon with an 11-4 loss to fourth seeded Sage. Junior Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with three hits in the game.
 
For the second straight day, the Mount fell behind early after Sage plated two runs in the first, four more in the second and two more runs in the third inning. Alexa Silk connected on a home run for the Gators in the first inning and added a run scoring double in the second.
 
Morgan Dunn connected on a two-run home run in the second inning for Sage and then produced a two-run doubled in the third frame. The Gators closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh when Dunn ripped her second run scoring double of the game and Alana Vandenburg chased home two runners with a double.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got on the board for the first time in the tournament with four runs in the fifth inning that sliced the Sage lead to 8-4. Guerra singled home Casey Cuccio (Medford, N.Y.) with the Dolphins' first run of the game with Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) flowing with a run scoring base hit. The Dolphins got their third and fourth runs of the inning on sacrifice flies from Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) and Rachel Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.).
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game with eight hits, all singles. Guerra rounded out the game 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Davis went 2-for-4 with a run scored and one driven in. Cuccio and Celestina Alfaro (Norwalk, Calif.) scored runs for the Dolphins and Mackeznie Heizer finished with a run and an RBI.
 
Sage was led by a 4-for-4 effort from Dunn who drove in five runs and scored twice. Kristen Belkirch and Silk each scored three runs for the Gators, with Silk going 3-for-3 with two RBI. The Gators finished with 14 hits in the game, including seven for extra bases.

Makenzie Heizer suffered the loss and fell to 9-8 on the season with her 11th complete game of the season. She allowed 10 earned runs on 14 hits, striking out four. Lindsay Brace picked up her eighth win of the season for Sage with 4.0 innings of work. She allowed four runs on five hits, fanning three.
 
Saturday's losses closes Mount Saint Vincent's season at 14-20 overall.
