Softball Falls Twice At Manhattanville

Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team was back in action on Wednesday afternoon, falling twice at non-conference foe Manhattanville by scores of 10-5 and 8-5. Sophomore Kierstyn Bourdeau (Cheshire, Conn.) totaled five hits over the two games, including three in game one.
 
Mount Saint Vincent fell behind early in Wednesday's opener after the Valiants plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Rosaria Callara scored the first run on a passed ball before Laurel Coito came home on a run scoring groundout.
 
Manhattanville plated its third run in the second inning on an RBI double from Callara and broke the game open with four runs in the home half of the third frame. The big blow in the third inning was a two-run triple from Alyssa Casino.
 
The Dolphins got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with three runs on three hits. Rianna Laughridge (Vacaville, Calif.) got the Dolphins on the board with an RBI double and Bourdeau delivered Laughridge and Rachel Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) with a single to close out the scoring in the frame.
 
The Mount pulled to within 7-5 with two runs in the fifth inning keyed by a Heizer RBI double, but the Valiants put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the inning to pull in front by the final five run decision.
 
Bourdeau finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Heizer scored twice for the Mount and added a run batted in.
 
Sophomore Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) took the loss for the Dolphins in game one after working 3.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits. She struck out one and walked one in falling to 1-4 on the season. Alicia Marino earned the win with a complete game, moving to 5-1 on the season.
 
In game two, the Dolphins plated four runs in their first at-bat to open an early lead. Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) led off the game with a home run and Dalton followed with a one-out home run to push the Dolphins in front 2-0. Bourdeau delivered the Mount's third run with a single before Laughridge scored the Dolphins' fourth run of the frame on a wild pitch.
 
Manhattanville got three runs back in the bottom of the fourth when Casino produced a three-run double with two outs in the inning.
 
The Dolphins got a run back in the fifth on a run scoring groundout, but the Valiants rallied with five runs in the sixth to post the come-from-behind victory. Coito led off the inning with a home run and Adrena Daw drove in two runs with a base hit in the inning.
 
Mount Saint Vincent had four players with two hits in the game, including Guerra who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Dalton scored two runs and went 2-for-4 with Rachel Heizer going 2-for-4 with a run. Bourdeau closed out a strong day with two hits and an RBI in game two.
 
Rachel Heizer suffered the loss in game two, falling to 2-2 on the season. She allowed seven earned runs on eight hits, striking out four. Coito worked a complete game for the Valiants, striking out one and walking one.
 
With two losses on Wednesday, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 3-9 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to conference play on Thursday when they travel to Old Westbury. First pitch with the Panthers is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
