Mount Saint Vincent Sweeps CCNY On Senior Night

Senior Brett Holiday posted four blocks in the regular season finale

Cucullu puts away match-high 16 kills

Riverdale, N.Y. – Led by a match-high 16 kills from sophomore Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.) and four total blocks from senior Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team closed out the regular season on Tuesday with a 25-22, 25-14, 25-17 non-conference victory over the City College of New York.
 
Mount Saint Vincent trailed briefly in the second set, falling behind by as many as three points in the early going. The Dolphins quickly tied the score at 5-5 and the used an 8-1 run to open a 14-8 lead on a kill by Holiday.
 
The Dolphins finished the second set with 17 kills and hit .375 as a team to open the two set advantage. The Mount never trailed in the deciding frame and used a four point spurt early in the frame to take a 5-1 lead on a Marc Barreda (Bay Shore, N.Y.) service ace.
 
Cucullu had a strong night for the Dolphins, hitting .565 in the match, committing just three attack errors. He added three aces, nine digs and five total blocks to the winning effort for the Dolphins. Holiday finished his final regular season home match with eight winners to go along with five digs and four blocks.
 
Senior James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) handed out 34 assists for Mount Saint Vincent, adding four digs and an ace with classmate Reginald Owens (Staten Island, N.Y.) adding four kills. Senior Kristopher Jones (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the match with three digs for the Dolphins.
 
Sophomore T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y) finished with eight digs and Barreda closed out the night with six kills and six digs.
 
CCNY was led by 11 kills from Anthony Reyes who also led the squad with 10 digs. Oleksandr Boychuk handed out 17 assists and added two kills.
 
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent held a 40-21 advantage in kills and an11-0 edge in service aces. The Dolphins also controlled the battle at the net, holding a 7.5-2 edge in total team blocks.
 
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent closes out the regular season at 16-9. The Dolphins will open play in the Skyline Conference Tournament on April 9 when they travel to top-seeded Kean. Match time with the Cougars is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
