Baseball Splits Skyline Conference Set With Purchase

Senisi drives in four runs in game one; Negron earns third win

West Harrison, N.Y. – Sophomore Robert Negron (Bronx, N.Y.) earned his third win of the season and junior Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove in four runs in game one on Saturday, as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team settled for a split in a Skyline Conference doubleheader with Purchase, downing the Panthers 17-7 in the opener and falling 8-1 in game two.
 
Trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning in game one, Mount Saint Vincent broke the game open with 11 tallies in the fourth inning to open a 12-2 lead. Cristian Lynch (Mastic, N.Y.) started the scoring with a run scoring double and was one of eight Dolphins tom drive in a run in the inning. Senisi closed out the scoring with a three-run home run in the frame.
 
After Purchase scored two runs in each of its next two at-bats and a single run in the top of the seventh, Mount Saint Vincent put the game away with five tallies in the home half to the seventh. Senisi drove in his fourth run of the game when he was hit with a pitch before Casey Surdi (West Babylon, N.Y.) drove in two runs with a single and Nicholas Pace (Cranford, N.J.) ended the game with a two-run double.
 
The Mount Saint Vincent offense pounded out 13 hits in the contest with eight different players recording a hit. Pace finished the game 3-for-6 with a double, run scored and three RBI and freshman Matthew Nesensohn (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
Senisi was the third player with multiple hits for the Mount, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI. Surdi scored three runs in the game for the Dolphins and drove in two.
 
Negron moved to 3-0 on the season with 6.0 innings of work in game one. He allowed five earned runs on eight hits, striking out six. Siddeeq Ali (Apopka, Fla.) came on to work the final inning, recording two strikeouts.
 
In game two, the Mount Saint Vincent offense was held to five hits and fell behind 7-0 after four innings. A five run fourth frame by Purchase was highlighted by a Billy Kaul two-run triple.
 
The Dolphins scratched out their only run of the game in the fifth inning when Nesensohn connected on his first career home run for the Dolphins.
 
Nesensohn recorded his second multiple hit game of the day, going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in game two on Saturday. Lynch rounded out the game 1-for-2 with Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) and Steven Giustino (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) each recording a base hit.
 
Evan Brown (St. Albans, N.Y.) suffered the loss for the Mount in game two and fell to 1-2 on the season after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings. Juan Brito (Harlem, N.Y.) coming on to work the final 3.2 innings, allow one run on two hits. Miguel Reyes worked a complete game for Purchase, striking out seven.
 
Following Saturday's split, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 4-8 overall and to 3-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will square off with Old Westbury on Sunday with the conference doubleheader set to get underway at 11:00 a.m. at Lehman College.
