Mount Saint Vincent Falls Short In Conference Opener

Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team dropped its fifth straight game to open the season on Saturday, falling to Farmingdale State in its conference opener by a score of 13-7. Freshman Rob Lalli (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) and senior Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) each finished the day with two goals for the Dolphins.

After falling behind 5-0 after the first quarter, Mount Saint Vincent outscored the Rams 7-4 over the next two quarters to move to within 9-7 after three periods. Germain Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) got the Dolphins on the board early in the second quarter, before Lalli and McEnaney found the back of the cage to pull the Mount to within 5-3. Farmingdale State added two goals in the final 38 seconds of the second stanza to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Pat McEnaney and Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals to get the Dolphins to within 7-5 with 12:26 left in the third period. The Dolphins would pull to within two goals twice more in the third quarter, but saw Farmingdale State score the only four goals of the fourth period to pull away for the final six goal advantage.

McEnaney and Lalli were two of five different goal scorers for Mount Saint Vincent, with Lalli adding three groundballs. Ngaba paced the Dolphins with seven groundballs and six face-offs wins and Frank Maddaloni picked up five groundballs and won five face-offs.

Philip Schaefer led Farmingdale State with five goals and six points and Derrick Sherrod tallied three times. Tyler Rifice scored twice and picked up a team-high seven groundballs and Donovan Devaney won a team best five face-offs.

Senior Ben Gashi (Bronx, N.Y.) played a strong game in the loss for the Dolphins, making 17 saves and collecting a pair of groundballs. Thomas Fallon earned the win for the visitors with seven stops, adding one groundball.

Overall, Farmingdale State held a 48-19 advantage in shots and a 40-27 edge in groundballs. The Mount won 12 of the 23 face-offs taken. Mount Saint Vincent scored three times with the man advantage and went 9-for-14 in clearing chances.

Following Saturday's loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 0-5 overall and to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a non-conference road contest at Manhattanville on Tuesday. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
