Men’s Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker To Cobleskill In Season Opener

Lalli totals eight points, McBride scores six goals

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team was dealt a tough 18-17 non-conference loss by Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Rob Lalli (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) led the team with eight points, while senior Connor McBride (Monroe, N.Y.) finished the game with six goals.
 
After a tight first quarter that featured five goals, the two teams exploded for 13 combined goals in the second stanza, with the visiting Tigers taking a 10-8 lead into the intermission. McBride potted two goals in the second period for the Dolphins and Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) picked up a goal and an assist.
 
Cobleskill came out of halftime and put seven more goals on the board in the third quarter to open a 17-12 lead with 15 minutes left in regulation time. McBride tallied two more times in the third and Chris Summo (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up a goal and a helper for the Dolphins.
 
Trailing by five goals heading into the fourth quarter, the Dolphins rallied to tie the score with five straight goals in the fourth period. Lalli scored twice for the Mount and McEnaney finished off a feed from Lalli in the middle stages of the quarter to even the score at 17-17. Cobleskill answered with the eventual game winner late in regulation with a marker from Alex Acompora to hold off the Dolphins.
 
Cobleskill was led by four goals each from Acompora and Logan Carsten with Acomproa adding three assists. David Meyers led the team with six groundball and Kyle Madgziuk won a game-high 14 face-offs for the visitors.
 
Lalli led the Mount with eight points on five goals and three assists and was one of four players with multiple goals in the game. McBride led all players with six markers and Summo rounded out the day with three goals and three assists. McEnaney totaled four points and picked up five groundballs, with Lalli winning a team best six face-offs.
 
Eric Randazzo picked up the win for Cobleskill in goal, making eight saves and scooping five groundballs. Tyler Smyth made his collegiate debut in net for the Dolphins, stopping three shots and picking up five groundballs.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Cobleskill 44-34, with the Tigers holding a slim 38-27 edge in groundballs. Cobleskill won 24 of the 39 face-offs taken in the game with each team scoring a pair of man-up goals.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-1 overall on the season. Next up for the Dolphins is a non-conference tilt with Bard on Saturday.
