Mount Saint Vincent hits .461 over two conference wins

Bronxville, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team pushed its conference winning streak to three matches on Sunday afternoon following a 25-2, 25-7, 25-9 road win an Sarah Lawrence and a 25-12, 25-16, 25-12 triumph over Yeshiva. Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.) put away 20 kills and hit .621 over the two wins, while freshman Michael Kochen (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded 10 aces and 16 kills on the day.
 
Mount Saint Vincent pulled away in the first set against Sarah Lawrence with a 9-0 run that pushed the Mount in front 12-2. Kochen recorded five aces over the run for the Mount who hit a blistering .800 in the first set. The Dolphins hit at least .333 in each of the three frames against the Gryphons and made just five attack errors in the match.
 
Kochen had a big match for the Mount, finishing the contest with six kills and a .750 attack percentage. He added a career-high nine service aces against the Gryphons to go along with four digs. He led the Mount in the match with 15 points.
 
Freshman Sean O'Connor (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) matched the team-high with six kills against Sarah Lawrence, adding six service aces. Senior James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and freshman Logan Dickover (Las Vegas, Nev.) both handed out 10 assists and T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) lifted eight digs.
 
Sarah Lawrence produced just one kill in the match, with Mount Saint Vincent holding a 30-1 advantage in the category. Mount Saint Vincent hit .521 as a team in the contest and produced a season-high 24 aces, with seven different players recorded a service ace for the Dolphins. The Mount also finished with a 4-0 advantage in total team blocks with senior Reginald Owens (Staten Island, N.Y.) leading the team with three total blocks.
 
The Dolphins had another efficient match in Sunday's second match after hitting .425 as a team against Yeshiva. The Mount hit better than .300 in all three sets, including .600 with 17 kills in the third set against the Maccabees.
 
Cucullu finished the Yeshiva match with 17 kills, hitting .600 after committing just a pair of miscues in 25 attacks. He reached double-figures in kills for the third time this season and rounded out the contest with eight aces and four digs.
 
Kochen closed a strong day with 10 winners against the Maccabees and finished with six digs and a service ace. Marc Barreda (Bay Shore, N.Y.) produced eight kills and Barczaik lifted 10 digs. DiGiovanni led the team with 21 assists and Dickover handed out 17 helpers in one set.
 
Mount Saint Vincent rounded out the day with a 45-12 advantage in kills against Yeshiva and a 13-1 edge in service aces. Yeshiva held a 5-4 edge in team blocking, with Eliakim Gartenberg totaling four blocks for the Maccabees.
 
Following a 3-1 weekend, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 9-5 overall on the season and to 4-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Mount is a non-conference home match against Eastern Mennonite on March 5. Match time with the Royals is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
