Dolphins Sweep Bard, Fall To Rutgers-Newark In Straight Sets

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Friday, downing Bard 25-13, 25-23, 27-25 before falling to Rutgers-Newark 12-25, 25-27, 18-25. Sophomore Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.) paced the Mount with 18 kills over the two matches, including 10 against Bard.
 
Cucullu rounded out the win over Bard hitting .500 for the Dolphins, putting away 10 kills and committing just two attack errors in 16 attempts. He an ace and a block to the winning effort over the Raptors.
 
Freshman Marc Barreda (Bay Shore, N.Y.) continued the strong start to his collegiate career with nine kills for the Dolphins, while classmates Neven Skoblar (San Pedro, Calif.) and Michael Kochen (Holbrook, N.Y.) each recorded seven kills.
 
Logan Dickover (Las Vegas, Nev.) handed out 16 assists in the victory, while classmate Michael Barfield (Farmingville, N.Y.) finished up with 11 helpers. Senior Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) contributed three total blocks to the winning effort.
 
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent held a 37-23 advantage in kills and a 3-2 edge in service aces. The Dolphins also took a slim 5-4 advantage in total team blocks in the match.
 
In the second match of the day, Mount Saint Vincent hit .167 as a team and totaled 26 kills. Rutgers-Newark put away 42 winners in the straight set victory and hit an efficient .387 as a team to earn the victory.
 
Cucullu led the Dolphins for the second straight match of the day with eight kills and added one dig. Holiday and Kochen each finished the contest with six kills, with Kochen adding two service aces and Holiday totaling two blocks.
 
Dickover handed out 18 assists to lead the Dolphins and T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) lifted a team-high five digs.
 
Cody Chidsey led all players for Rutgers-Newark with 13 kills and hit a blistering .750. Kevin McCandless handed out 37 assists and added a pair of aces.
 
Friday's split moves Mount Saint Vincent to 5-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will close out play at the Bard Tournament on Saturday when they take on Vassar. Match time with the Brewers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
