Gators Hand Dolphins First Skyline Defeat With 89-82 Win

5 Dolphins Score In Double Figures

ALBANY, NY - The CMSV men's basketball team took on defending Skyline Champions, Sage College on Tuesday night, falling 89-82 to the Gators. The loss was the Dolphins first loss in four games, putting them at 5-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Mike Mulligan led a balanced scoring attack for CMSV, as he poured in 13 points and grabbed five rebounds. Skyline Co-Player of the Week, Ammad Alkhulaidi notched his fourth double-double in the past five games, going for 10 points and 13 rebounds. Madison Martinez and Jamir Ferebee had off shooting nights but still managed to score 11 points each, as did freshman Trevor Johnson.

The Dolphins controlled the game early jumping out to an 8-0 lead a little over four minutes into the game after Ferebee made his free throw after being fouled on an open court layup. Martinez would nail a three with 14;17 remaining to push the lead to 10 points, giving the Dolphins their largest lead of the game.

The Gators would respond and tie the game at 17 all with just over 10 minutes to go in the half but Andrew Curiel knocked down a three to give the lead back to the Dolphins at 20-17, this would be the last lead they would hold.

Despite a 5-2 run by CMSV in the final 2:43 of the half, the Gators led 39-35.

Mulligan would help the Dolphins cut the Gators lead to one after a layup just over two minutes into the half but a quick 6-0 would push the Gators lead to seven.

With 6:47 remaining, the Dolphins were down by 17 points but that's when they began to chip away at the deficit. They would eventually get to within five points after two made free throws by Matthew Sowah, but the Gators offense, which shot 60% in the 2nd half, proved to be too much.

The Dolphins return to action on Saturday December 12, when they will take on SUNY Old Westbury on Long Island at 2pm.
