OLD WESTBURY, NY - The CMSV men's basketball team took on SUNY Old Westbury, in a Skyline matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling 76-72 to the Panthers as they drop their second straight conference game to fall to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the league.
CMSV had three players score in double figures, led by Skyline Co-Player of the week
Ammad Alkhulaidi who once again tied his career high with 22 points. The sophomore also grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
Jamir Ferebee chipped in with 19 points, while
Andrew Curiel added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Mike Mulligan added six points while dishing out six assists.
After a
Madison Martinez jumper made the score 6-5 Dolphins, 1:58 into the game, CMSV would not take another lead the remainder of the game. With 6:06 to go in the first half, the Dolphins fell down by 11 points but three pointers by
Jose Maestre and two by Ferebee cut the lead to two with 3:55 to go. Maestre would connect on another three with 51 seconds left to cut the lead to seven.
In the second half, Alkhulaidi would lead the team, scoring 19 of his 22 points in the final 20 minutes. The Dolphins got down by as much as 15 points with 13:02 remaining but eventually they would trim it down to two points after Ferebee converted an old fashioned three point play to make the score 56-54 with 5:54 to go.
Alkhulaidi would make a layup with 2:15 to make it a two point game once again but on Old Westbury's next possession, the Dolphins couldn't grab a defensive rebound and the Panthers converted a three pointer to make the lead five points.
Alkhulaidi cut the lead to one with 10 seconds left and after two made Panther free throws gave them a three point lead, the Dolphins turned the ball over on their next possession giving the Panthers the victory.
The Dolphins return to action December 20 and 21 when they will take part in the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Classic in Atlanta, where they will play Oglethorpe University on 12/20 and either Regis College or Huntingdon University on 12/21.
