ATLANTA, GA - The CMSV men's basketball team wrapped up play at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tournament on Monday afternoon, as the Dolphins took on Huntingdon College in the consolation game. Huntingdon held on for a 82-78 victory, dropping CMSV to 5-6 on the season.
The Dolphins had all five starters score in double figures led by sophomore
Jamir Ferebee who led all scorers with 15 points.
Andrew Curiel and
Madison Martinez each chipped in wtih 13 points while
Mike Mulligan scored 11 and
Ryan Fraser scored a career high 10 points.
The Dolphins led early in the first half, taking a 6-1 lead on a Fraser layup, less than four minutes into the game forcing Huntingdon to call a TO. The teams would go back-and-forth for the next few possessions but the Hawks found their rhythm and extended their lead to eight points with 5:39 to go before halftime.
Martinez, playing in his hometown, made a 3-pointer with 5:00 left before halftime to cut the lead to five points but Hawks responded by closing out the half on a 12-5 run to take a 39-27 lead.
In the 2nd half, Huntingdon would extend their lead to as much as 15 points but the Dolphins would not surrender, as they dug in and began chipping away at the lead.
During a five minute stretch, the Dolphins turned a 15 point deficit into a tie ball game at 48 apiece. Eventually they would take the lead on two made free throws by Ferebee but the Hawks tied it up on their next possession.
A few minutes later, Fraser would nail a 3-pointer to give the Dolphins a four point lead with 11:46 left in the game. It would be the last lead CMSV would have the remainder of the game.
Over the next five minutes Huntingdon went on an 18-4 run to take a 10 point lead at 68-58. CMSV would continue to make shots and keep the game close but could get no closer than two or three points for the reminder of the game.
This was the final game in 2015 for the Dolphins and they will return to action Tuesday January 4 when they will host Skyline foe St. Joseph's College-Long Island at the Sharp Center.
