RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team improved to 2-0 in Skyline Conference play with a 76-68 victory over St. Joseph's College-Brookln on Monday night. The Dolphins improve to 3-2 overall.
Sophomore's
Jamir Ferebee and
Madison Martinez led the Dolphins with 17 points each, with each shooting 50% from 3-point land. Ferebee also added in 11 rebounds to notch his first career double-double.
Ammad Alkhulaidi tallied his third double-double of the season, scoring 14 points, while grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Dolphins jumped out early on the Bears taking a 13-4 lead just over six minutes into the game, after
Mike Mulligan went 1-of-2 from the free throw line. A 3-pointer by Richard DiPuma would cap off a 12-0 run to give the Bears a 16-13 lead with 7:13 left in the first half.
CMSV would trail 20-17 after a Michael Murray layup but would end the half on an 18-7 run, which included clutch 3-pointers from Martinez and
Trevor Johnson, to take a 35-27 lead into the locker room.
The Bears would erase the halftime deficit immediatley, taking a 36-35 lead just over three minutes into the half, the Dolphins responded with points on three straight possessions to take a 43-36 lead.
The teams would go back and forth with the Dolphins seeming to take control after Martinez nailed a three to give CMSV an eight point lead with 6:22 remaining. But the Bears would not go away pulling to within three points wafter a Matt O'Neill layup made the score 68-65 but on the next possession
Kahlil Shorter would make a layup giving the Dolphpins a five point lead, which is as close as the teams would be the remainder of the game.
Ferebee's aggressiveness payed off, as he went 7-of-8 from the free throw line, all in the second half.
The team returns to action Wednesday December 2, when they travel to face Purchase College.
