NEW YORK, NY - The CMSV Men's Basketball team opened up Skyline Conference play on Tuesday night, facing off against Yeshiva University. The Dolphins came away with a 68-58 victory, to even their record at 2-2.
Freshman
Trevor Johnson led all scorers with 19 points coming off the bench, on 7-of-16 shooting from the field. Three other Dolphins scored in double digits including
Matthew Sowah (14 points),
Jamir Ferebee (13 points) and
Ammad Alkhulaidi notching his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Early on Yeshiva hung with the Dolphins but a Johnson layup with 8:38 left in the half started a 10-3 run for CMSV over the next four minutes as they took a 30-18 lead. CMSV expanded their lead to 18 points two different times late in the first half before setting for a 41-25 lead going into halftime.
Johnson was outstanding in the first half scoring 15 of his career high 19 in the first 20 minutes. As a team the Dolphins shot 48% from the field in the 1st half.
The Dolphins would lead for the entire second half, but the Macs would cut the lead all the way down to five points with just 2:11 left in the game. On the Dolphins next possession Johnson would nail a jumper to increase the lead to seven.
CMSV would go 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final minute of the game to seal the 68-58 victory.
The Dolphins return to action Monday November 30, when they will host St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn.
