MONTCLAIR, NJ - The CMSV Women's Volleyball team won their 8th straight match on Wednesday night, defeating Montclair St. 3-1 in a non-conference matchup. With the victory the Dolphins improve to 13-13, heading into their final two matches of the regular season.
The Dolphins fell behind early in the 1st set, trailing the Red Hawks 17-7, but the team would respond winning 13 of the next 15 points to pull ahead 20-19. The run was led by strong attacking play with
Ashleigh Scozzari tallying three kills and two block assists as well as
Maria Leineweber and
Erika Moncada who both registered kills. The Red Hawks closed out the 1st set victory with a kill by Lilliana Gonzalez to win 25-23.
In the 2nd set, the teams traded points early on with the Dolphins finally taking control of the set during a five point run to take an 11-6 lead, led by kills from Leinewber and
Zana Daluz. The Red Hawks would pull to within two points at 15-13 but the Dolphins would shut them down closing out the set on a 11-3 run.
The 3rd & 4th sets were won by the Dolphins 25-17 and 25-14. The 3rd set saw the Dolphins have an excellent set totaling 18 kills and hitting a stellar .438. In the 4th set the team smashed 14 kills as a team with a .200 hitting percentage.
Scozzari led all players with a game-high 28 kills, while also chipping in with seven total blocks, while hitting .462. Leineweber had a stellar game as the junior Outside Hitter had 13 kills and a team-high 15 digs. Daluz also had double-digit kills totaling 10, while
Nicole Henderson dished out 52 assists, breaking her own school record for assists in a single match.
The Dolphins close out the regular season on Saturday October 31st when they host a Skyline Tri-Match where they willt take on Purchase College at 11am and Martime at 3pm.
