Dolphins and Beavers square off on Saturday at noon

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer program will start an exciting new era on Saturday afternoon when it hosts the City College of New York in the first ever home soccer game played on campus. The two teams will square off on the new Athletic Field at Marillac starting at 12:00 p.m. Live Stats for the game will be available here.

Mount Saint Vincent, under the direction of second year head coach Nate Kalin, is coming off a record setting 2013 season that saw it post program records in wins (12), goals (49), assists (35), points (133) and team goals against average (0.93). The Dolphins also recorded the longest winning streak on record and the best start to a season after winning their first nine contests in 2013.

The Dolphins return 82-percent of their scoring from a season ago, including 2013 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.). He paced the Mount as a freshman in 2013 in scoring with 31 points on the strength of 13 goals and five assists. He potted four game winning goals and led a pair of players in double-figures in the goal category.

Classmate Pablo Tellez (El Monte, Calif.) finished his freshman year with 14 points on the strength of five goals and four helpers, while Jonathan Barajas (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) scored three times for the Mount, including two game winning goals.

The Mount Saint Vincent defense returns a strong core, including sophomore goalkeeper David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.). Melchor posted eight shutouts in 2013 to go along with 88 saves, a .838 save percentage and a 0.89 goals against average. Also returning on defense are sophomores Alexi Aguilar (Los Angeles, Calif.), Nick Benitez (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Mario Lopez (Suffern, N.Y.).

Coach Kalin and the Dolphins will also look for increased production from returning players Elvist Lieku (Yonkers, N.Y.), Tavelli Errar (Bronx, N.Y.), Marcial Aguilar (Yonkers, N.Y.) and John Everson (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.).

The Dolphins will also turn to a talented group of newcomers in 2014 to help the team to its first ever berth in the Skyline Conference Tournament. Incoming players looking to make an immediate impact include: Rich Diodati (Seaford, N.Y.), Michael Giraldi (Sicklerville, N.J.), Eduardo Arce (Chula Vista, Calif.), Reymond Velete (Concord, Calif.), John O'Boyle (Commack, N.Y.), Dennis Reyes (Waldwick, N.J.), Andrew Gomez (Sun City, Calif.), Robert Photos (Shelton, Conn.), Joseph Llamuca (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Jaime Salazar (Long Beach, Calif.), Diego Hernandez (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Pat Warman (LaGrange, N.Y.).

The Dolphins closed out the 2013 season with a 12-5-2 overall record and a 2-5-2 mark in Skyline Conference play. Following Saturday's season opener, the Mount will host non-conference foe Eastern on Tuesday, September 2.
