Men’s Volleyball Topples Yeshiva, Falls To #13 Kean

New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team split a pair of Skyline Conference matches on Sunday afternoon, dispatching Yeshiva by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-13 before falling to #13 Kean by scores of 8-25, 26-28 and 19-25. Junior setter James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) closed the Yeshiva match with a career-high 48 assists.
 
After dropping the first set to the Maccabees, Mount Saint Vincent hit .290 in the second set and put away 15 kills to pull even. After picking up 15 more kills in the third set, Mount Saint Vincent hit a blistering .393 in the fourth set to score its second win of the season over Yeshiva.
 
Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.) led three Dolphins in double-figures in kills with a match-high 19. He hit .351 for the Dolphins in the contest and added four service aces. Jacob Johnson (Henderson, Nev.) and Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) each put away 13 kills for the Dolphins with Johnson posting four aces and five digs. Holiday totaled four blocks in the win for the Mount.
 
DiGiovanni assisted on 48 kills for Mount Saint Vincent, posting a new career-high in the category. He closed out a strong all-around match with six digs and three total blocks. Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) each lifted 11 digs with Kolodny recording seven kills. Reginald Owens (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished the contest with four total blocks for the Dolphins.
 
Mount Saint Vincent posted a 54-28 advantage in kills against Yeshiva and a 12-6 edge in service aces. Total team blocks in the match were even at 9-9 on Sunday.
 
In the second match of the day, Mount Saint Vincent was held to a .070 hitting percentage and 32 kills by the Cougars. Kean hit .286 in the match as a team and had eight players post at least three kills in the tilt.
 
Johnson posted a match-high 10 kills for the Dolphins and lifted five digs. Cucullu recorded eight kills and added three aces and seven digs. Holiday finished the night with five kills and a block for the Mount.
 
DiGiovannni handed out 25 more assists against the Cougars and picked up four digs. Barczik and Kolodny both posted four digs in the contest with Kolodny recording a pair of kills.
 
For the match Kean held a 40-32 edge in kills, with Bez Arslani and Ed Jedziniak pacing the team with seven winners each. Kean also held a convincing 11-1 advantage in total team blocks led by nine from Tommy Rosario.
 
Following the split on Sunday, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 14-10 overall on the season and at 8-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Sage to close out the regular season. Match time with the Gators is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
