Old Westbury, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team was downed for the first time in conference play on Saturday with 7-0 and 6-2 losses at Old Westbury. Seniors
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove in the Dolphins' runs in game two.
Old Westbury opened a five run lead in the second inning of game one with five hits to get all the scoring it would need in the game. Tommy Ziegan, Joey Walsh and Jacob Conors all produced run scoring singles in the inning for the Panthers.
The Old Westbury lead would grow to 6-0 in the third on a Ziegan single through the left side and the Panthers closed out the scoring in the game on a Jonathan Pagan RBI double with two outs in the sixth inning.
The Panthers out hit the Dolphins in the opener 11-3 and had four players finish with two hits. Conors, Ziegan, Walsh andn Brandon Stein all posted a pair of hits in the game with Conors and Ziegan each driving in two runs.
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.),
Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Sideli recorded the Mount Saint Vincent hits in game one, while
Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) drew a pair of walks.
Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) walked and stole a base for the Dolphins.
Senior
Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) suffered the loss in game one for the Mount and fell to 2-3 on the season. He allowed five earned runs in 2.2 innings of work on seven hits.
Sean Kanganis (Somers, N.Y.) struck out two batters and allowed a run in 3.0 innings and
Dan DiLascio (Yonkers, N.Y.) worked a scoreless 2.1 innings for the Mount, recording one strikeout.
Tim Ingram picked up the victory for Old Westbury and moved to 3-2 on the season. He struck out nine Dolphins in 7.0 shutout innings.
The Dolphins got on the board first in game two on Saturday with a run in the first inning. After
Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) singled and advanced on a wild pitch, Sideli delivered a single up the middle to drive home Weber for the early 1-0 lead.
Old Westbury answered in the first with a run on a Pagan sacrifice fly and moved in front for good in the game in the second on a two-run double off the bat of Michael Cardino to push in front 3-1.
The Panthers tacked on a run in the third and tallied twice in the fifth to build a five run lead. Ziegan had the big hit in the two-run fifth with a two-run single. The Dolphins got back on the board in the home half of the sixth on a Rivera single that drove home Sharpe to close out the scoring in the game.
Cardino was the only player in the game to finish with more than one hit after going 2-for-3 with two RBI in game two. Ziegan finished off a strong day at the plate with two more RBI.
Weber and Sharpe crossed with the Mount's only two runs of the day, with Weber, Sideli, Sharpe, Rivera, Esposito and
Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all recording hits in the game. Hoxha reached twice on walks for the Mount in game two.
Sophomore
Tyler Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) took the loss in game two and fell to 1-2 on the season. He gave up five earned runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings in game two.
Evan Brown (St. Albans, N.Y.) worked 1.2 scoreless innings in relief for the Mount.
Arismedy Nunez picked up the win for Old Westbury, allowing two runs on five hits in 6.0 innings. He struck out six and walked two as he moved to 3-2 on the year.
Saturday's losses drops Mount Saint Vincent to 8-11 overall and to 3-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back on the field Sunday afternoon when they play host to Maritime. First pitch at Skylands Park in Frankford Township, N.J. is set for 12:00 p.m.
