Mount Saint Vincent Eliminated From Skyline Conference Tournament

Dolphins fall to Farmingdale State and Sage on day two of tournament

Troy, N.Y. – After winning its first ever game in the Skyline Conference Tournament on Friday, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team was eliminated from the event on Saturday afternoon following a 9-3 loss to Farmingdale State and a 5-0 defeat at the hands of top-seeded Sage. Freshman Brittany Lee (Newton, N.J.) recorded two hits and two RBI in the game against Farmingdale State.
 
Mount Saint Vincent fell behind early against Farmingdale State in the winner's bracket game on Saturday when Meagan Anderson connected on a lead-off solo home run in the bottom half of the first inning.
 
Farmingdale State would go on to break the game open in the third inning when it plated five runs on seven hits to move in front 6-0. Michelle Mongiello and Marissa Monaco each picked up run scoring singles in the inning and Andrea Klarman connected on a two-run home run to close out the scoring in the inning.
 
The Dolphins would finally get on the board in the fifth inning against the Rams, stringing together five hits. Rianna Laughridge (Vacaville, Calif.) and Kierstyn Bourdeau (Cheshire, Conn.) started the inning with singles and Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) loaded the bases with a safety with two outs in the inning. Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) delivered Laughride with a two-out single and Lee drove home Bourdeau and Guerra with a single to center to slice the Mount's deficit in half.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would be retired in order in its final two at-bats in the contest and the Rams added three insurance runs in the sixth when Hillary Genova hit a two-run home run and Klarman connected on her second round tripper of the game, a solo shot with two outs in the inning.
 
The Rams outhit the Dolphins in the game 14-8 and had five players with at least two base hits in the game. Anderson went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and an RBI in the game with Genova going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and a pair of RBI.
 
Lee and Bourdeau each recorded two hits in the game for Mount Saint Vincent, with Lee driving in two of the Mount's three runs. Dalton finished up 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Guerra, Laughridge and Bourdeau all scored a run.
 
Junior Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) suffered the loss and fell to 11-4 on the year after working 2.0 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. She did not walk or strikeout a hitter in the game for the Dolphins. Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) came on for the final 4.0 innings and surrendered four runs and struck out three. Tori Tedesci picked up the complete game winning after striking out three and allowing eight singles.
 
After having its seven game winning streak stopped by the Rams, Mount Saint Vincent took on Sage for the second time on the weekend for chance to play for the league title on Sunday. The Dolphins fell behind early for the second time on Saturday, allowing Sage to score twice in its first at-bat. Katie Kovage drove in the eventual game winning run with a single with Hillary Faas later scoring the second run of the frame on an error.
 
The Gators would move their lead out to 3-0 in the third inning when Kovage drove in Faas with a two-out double and tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
 
Mount Saint Vincent was held without a hit in the game until sixth inning when Heizer delivered a single to left field. The Dolphins added two more singles in the seventh with Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) and Dalton picking up the hits.
 
Fass, Kovage and Trish Gaulin all recorded two hits in the game for Sage with Faas scoring a pair of runs. Kovage delivered the team's only two RBI in the game.
 
The Mount got singles from Lee, Dalton and Cerbone with Lee walking twice and getting hit with a pitch. Bourdeau, Heizer and Davis also reach via the walk against the Gators.
 
Davis took her second loss of the day against Sage, allowing one earned run and three hits in 1.0 innings of work. All three outs she recorded in the outing came via the strikeout. Heizer came on to work 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. She picked up six strikeouts. Erika Daigle earned the win for Sage, striking out nine in the shutout victory.
 
Following Saturday's results, the Dolphins have dropped back-to-back games for just the third time this season and fall to 28-7 on the season.
