Huge Second Half Propels Mount Saint Vincent Past Maritime

Dolphins outscore Privateers 9-3 in second half

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Sophomore Germain Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) scored four times in a six goal third quarter as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team overcame an 8-3 halftime deficit to down league rival Maritime 12-11 on Wednesday night. The win is the second in as many outings against the Privateers in the last two seasons.
 
After moving out to a 3-2 lead after one quarter on Wednesday, Maritime scored five of the six goals in the second to take an 8-3 advantage after 30 minutes of action. Neil Nembhard sparked the early lead with a pair of second quarter goals and an assist for the Privateers.
 
The Dolphins got first quarter goals from John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) two minutes apart and a second quarter goal from McEnaney but were outshot 29-14 in the first two quarters. The Privateers also held a 25-15 edge in groundballs before halftime and won 12 of the 13 face-offs taken.
 
Ngaba got the Dolphins on the board early in the third quarter to get the Mount back to within 8-4, but Maritime responded with the next two tallies, including a man-up goal from Colin McCoy, to move in front 10-4 with just over 12 minutes left in the frame.
 
After the McCoy marker, Mount Saint Vincent scored five of the final six goals in the period to get to within 11-9 with 15 minutes left to play. Ngaba scored three more times in the last 11:58 of the quarter with Charles Lloyd (Wheatley, N.Y.) adding a pair of tallies. Michael Puchalski (Yorktown, N.Y.) and Petito picked up assists over the run for the Dolphins.
 
Mount Saint Vincent completed the comeback in the final stanza, outscoring Maritime 3-0 to pick up its first league win of the season. Lloyd got his second goal of the game with 13:53 left in regulation before Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) potted the equalizer with 11:15 left and the game winner with just over two minutes left in regulation time. Lloyd picked up the assist on the tying goal and Puchalski helped on McEnaney's first game winning goal of the season.

The Dolphins had four players with multiple goals in the game, led by the four goal effort from Ngaba. He added four groundballs and six face-offs wins in the contest. Lloyd closed a big night with three goals and four points, adding two groundballs and a caused turnover.
 
Pat McEnaney and Mike McEnaney each scored twice for the Mount with Mike McEnaney adding four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Frank Maddaloni (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up a team-high six groundballs, while Joe Esposito (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Liam McHugh (Ardsley, N.Y.) each caused three turnovers.
 
Maritime got three goals and four points from Andrew Scalesi and a goal and three assists from Nembhard. Matt Hayes won 21 face-offs from the Privateers and led all players 16 groundballs.
 
Senior Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up the win with 20 saves in the game for Mount Saint Vincent. Kalibat reached 20 saves in a game for the third time this season, adding a groundball. Mike Arnold made 14 stops in the loss for Maritime.
 
Maritime outshot Mount Saint Vincent 47-40 in the game and won the groundball battle 41-32. The Privateers also dominated face-offs in the game, winning 21 of the 27 contested.
 
Wednesday's victory moves Mount Saint Vincent to 6-7 overall on the season and to 1-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Bard. Face-off with the Raptors is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
