Mount Saint Vincent Closes Regular Season With Sweep Of Baruch

Bronxville, N.Y.  – Sophomore Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) hit three home runs in game two and drove in six runs and freshman Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) won her tenth game of the season in the opener as the Dolphins swept visiting Baruch on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 13-1 and 9-1.
 
The Dolphins scored in three of their four at-bats in game one, plating six runs in the first inning, three in the second and four more in the fourth. The quick start was highlighted by six hits in the first inning, including run scoring singles from Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) and Kierstyn Bourdeau (Cheshire, Conn.) and a two run double from senior Joanna Makayan (Maspeth, N.Y.).
 
Mount Saint Vincent continued the scoring in the second inning with four more hits. Casey Cuccio (Medford, N.Y.) drove home Davis with a single in the inning and Makayan delivered two more runs with a two out single as the Dolphins opened a 9-0 lead.
 
After being held off the board in the third, the Dolphins closed out the scoring in the fourth inning with four tallies on two hits. Bourdeau hit a leadoff home run in the frame and Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) delivered Makayan with a single. Davis closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly that pushed across Danielle Kirrane (Bronx, N.Y.).
 
The Mount pounded out 13 hits in Tuesday's opener and had four players with multiple hits in the game. Davis finished up 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Guerra, Bourdeau and Makayan all recorded two hits in the game for the Dolphins with Davis, Heizer, Bourdeau and Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) all scoring twice. Makayan led the Dolphins with four RBI in the game one win.
 
Heizer moved into a tie for the team lead in wins with her tenth on the season and moved to 10-2 with the game one victory. She allowed one earned run on three hits, striking out seven and walking two. The complete game is her team leading 11th of the season and lowed her opponent's batting average to .190.
 
In game two on Tuesday, Maffei got the scoring started in the home half of the first inning with her first of three home runs in the game. She led off the inning with a solo blast to left to get the Dolphins out to a quick 1-0 lead.
 
In her next at-bat in the second inning, Maffei delivered Kirrane and Cerbone with a three-run shot with one out in the inning and then closed out her big day with a two-run home run in the third that drove in Kirrane, who picked up a two-run double in the inning.
 
Mount Saint Vincent totaled 10 more hits in game two, with six of those going for extra bases. Maffei finished the contest 3-for-3 with three runs and six RBI. She leads the team with eight home runs and 34 RBI with her game two production.
 
Rianna Laughridge (Vacaville, Calif.) wrapped up the game 2-for-2 with a double and a home run, adding a run scored and an RBI. Kirrane scored twice in the game for the Dolphins and drove home two runs to support the victory.
 
Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) moved to 7-0 on the season with the game two victory, finishing off her sixth complete game of the season. She allowed five singles in the game and one earned run. Dalton fanned five Baruch hitters and did not allow a walk.
 
With two wins on Tuesday, Mount Saint Vincent closes out the regular season at 27-5 overall. The Dolphins will return to action on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Skyline Conference Tournament. The Mount will tussle with the top-seed Sage at noon on Friday.
