Bronxville, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team closed out a busy Thursday with a non-conference sweep of Hunter, downing the Hawks 7-1 and 5-2. Sophomore Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) led off game one with a home run and delivered three RBI in game two. Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) picked up her fifth win for the Mount to complete the sweep.
 
After getting shutout against St. Joseph's-L.I. earlier in the day, Maffei got the Dolphins on the board for the first time on the day with a leadoff home run against the Hawks. The round tripper was the fifth of the season for Maffei.
 
The Dolphins would break game one open on Thursday with six runs, five unearned, in the home half of the third inning. Casey Cuccio (Medford, N.Y.) drove in a run with a single that was followed by a run scoring double from Joanna Makayan (Maspeth, N.Y.). Kierstyn Bourdeau (Cheshire, Conn.) closed out the scoring in the inning driving in Cuccio and Makayan with an RBI single.
 
Maffei finished off game one 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Bourdeau went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Cuccio and Makayan also finished game one with a hit and a run batted in for the Dolphins.
 
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) picked up her ninth win of the season in the opener after working 4.0 shutout innings. She allowed one base hit and fanned eight hitters in moving to 9-3. Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) recorded the final nine outs for her first career save, striking out two.
 
After falling behind 1-0 in game two on Thursday, Mount Saint Vincent knotted the score without a hit in the home half of the first inning. Maffei reached on an error and swiped two bases before scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dalton to get the Mount back even.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would pull in front for good in the game with three fourth inning runs and a run in the sixth. The Dolphins strung together four hits in the fourth inning, including a two-run single from Maffei that pushed across Cerbone and Rianna Laughridge (Vacaville, Calif.). Dalton added a run scoring single in the inning that delivered Danielle Kirrane (Bronx, N.Y.) and Maffei finished off the scoring in the game with a double that chased home Cerbone for a 5-1 lead in the sixth.
 
Maffei and Cerbone each collected two hits in the game for Mount Saint Vincent, with Maffei hitting her fourth double of the season and scoring a run. Cerbone scored twice in the win for the Dolphins. Maffei also finished the game with three stolen bases for the Dolphins.
 
Dalton worked a complete game and moved to a perfect 5-0 on the season with the win in game two. She allowed two runs, one earned, on eight hits for the Mount. She finished up with two strikeouts and lowered her earned run average to 1.98.
 
Thursday's sweep of Hunter pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 23-5 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Monday when they travel to Sarah Lawrence. First pitch with the Gryphons is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
