Union, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team was eliminated in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon by second seeded Ramapo by set scores of 21-25, 25-27 and 15-25. Freshman
Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.) paced the Dolphins with his second double-double of the season.
The Dolphins ripped off the first four points in the first set on Saturday, taking advantage of three Ramapo errors and a service ace from Cucullu. The Dolphins would hold the lead until a 5-1 run from Ramapo tied the score at 15-15. The Dolphins would retake a 16-15 advantage on a service error, but the Roadrunners closed the opening set on a 7-1 run to take the one set advantage.
In the second set it was Ramapo jumping out to a quick lead, before the Mount put together a 4-1 run to tie the score at 17-17. Cucullu sparked the rally with a pair of kills for the Dolphins. The Mount would take a brief 20-19 lead in the late stages of the second set and tied the score at 24-24 on a
Jacob Johnson (Henderson, Nev.) kill, but saw Ramapo score three of the last four points to pull in front 2-0.
The Roadrunners would put the match away by hitting .407 as a team in the third set, taking the lead for good in the frame with a 4-0 run to move in front 4-2. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, Mount Saint Vincent would score back-to-back points just one more time in the set.
Cucullu was the only player to finish in double figures in kills on Saturday, posting a match-high 11 for the Dolphins. He matched the team-high with 11 digs for the Mount and posted a pair of service aces. Johnson closed the contest with seven kills and three digs with
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) totaling three winners, a dig and a block.
Junior
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) handed out 20 assists for the Dolphins and
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) recorded three total blocks.
T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) closed out the match with 11 digs for Mount Saint Vincent.
Ramapo was paced by nine kills from Ryan Casci and eight winners from Ahjon Petty. Brian Colabella lifted eight digs for the Roadrunners and Andrew Balint handed out a match-high 22 assists.
Ramapo closed the match with a 44-23 advantage in kills and a 9-3 edge in service aces, led by three each from Balint and Colabella. Mount Saint Vincent took the advantage in total team blocks 6-2.
Saturday's loss closes Mount Saint Vincent's season with a 15-11 overall record.
