Baseball Settles For Split At St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Patchogue, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball squad earned a road Skyline Conference split at St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday , winning game one 7-1 and then falling in game two by a score of 8-0. Senior Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) earned his third win of the season in the opener and classmate Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs in the Dolphins' win.
 
The Dolphins plated a first inning run in game one on an RBI single from Sharpe. Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) started the rally with a one out double and was delivered by Sharpe with a base hit to right center. Sharpe was stranded at third in the inning after swiping a pair of bases.
 
The Golden Eagles knotted the score at 1-1 in the second inning on a two-out base hit from Anthony Andreani for their only run of the contest.
 
Sharpe added his second run scoring base hit in the fifth inning to give the Mount the lead for good in the game before the Dolphins pulled in front 4-1 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) drove in Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) with a triple and Keith Brodesser (Copiague, N.Y.) delivered Esposito with a single down the right field line. Esposito would score his second run in the eighth to close out the scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Robert Drake (Staten Island, N.Y.).
 
Mount Saint Vincent outhit St. Joseph's 14-7 in Saturday's game one and had six players with two hits. Weber went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Sharpe finished up 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Hoxha picked up two hits, a run and an RBI. Esposito closed out a big day with a double, triple, two runs and a run driven in. Drake rounded out the group with multiple hits with a 2-for-4 effort with a run and an RBI.
 
Rush moved to 3-3 on the season and moved his earned run average to 3.67 after working 7.1 innings in game one. He allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out four. Sean Kanganis (Somers, N.Y.) came on to work the final 1.2 innings, allowing just one base hit.
 
St. Joseph's broke game two open early with two runs in each of its first three at-bats. After getting two unearned runs in the first inning, the Golden Eagles got a two-run single from Dan DiBalsi in the second to move in front 4-0. Dennis McAllister drove in a run in the third with a double and Josh Outsen pushed the lead to 6-0 with a run scoring groundout.
 
The Golden Eagles would close out the scoring in the sixth inning when Anthony Bonilla delivered a run with a double and Andreani picked up an RBI single.
 
Mount Saint Vincent managed just three base hits in game two and was outhit 12-3. Esposito went 1-for-3 and Hoxha closed game two 1-for-3 with a double. Casey Surdi (West Babylon, N.Y.) picked up the other hit for the Dolphins, going 1-for-1 with a walk.
 
Andreani closed out game two 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI with Outsen and Ryan Walsh each collecting two hits. Outsen scored twice and drove in a run for the Golden Eagles.
 
Tyler Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) suffered the loss for Mount Saint Vincent in game two, allowing three earned runs on six hits in 2.0 innings. Steve Szobesky picked up the win for St. Joseph's, working a complete game and striking out five.
 
The split on Saturday moves Mount Saint Vincent to 9-14 overall on the season and to 4-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Purchase. First pitch with the Panthers is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
