Brittany Lee (Newton, N.J.) connected on two home runs in game one of Thursday's doubleheader against Old Westbury and sophomore
Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) hit a grand slam and drove in six runs in game two as the College of Mount Saint Vincent scored 5-1 and 10-3 wins over the Panthers.
Mount Saint Vincent had its first 12 hitters retired in order in game one on Thursday before Lee opened the scoring with a leadoff solo home run in the fifth inning. The round tripper was the third of the season for Lee.
The Dolphins would score three more runs in the fifth inning to pull in front 4-0.
Rianna Laughridge (Vacaville, Calif.) delivered
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) with an run scoring single in the inning and Maffei drove home Davis and
Danielle Kirrane (Bronx, N.Y.) with an infield single.
Old Westbury would get on the board in the top of the sixth with a leadoff home run from Jennifer Jean before Lee closed out the scoring in the game with her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the frame.
Lee rounded out Thursday's opener 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI.
Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) doubled and scored a run with Maffei driving in a pair of runs.
Heizer moved to 8-2 in the circle in game one, allowing one run on five hits in 7.0 innings. She walked one Old Westbury hitter and struck out seven, including the 100
th strikeout of the season.
The Dolphins broke game two open early with two runs in the first and three more in the second. Maffei drilled her first of two home runs in game two in the second to drive in two runs and Lee pushed across
Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) to give the Dolphins a 5-0 lead.
Old Westbury cut its deficit to two runs after plating three runs on three hits in the fourth inning. Katie Rizzo and Delana Murray each delivered RBI singles in the inning for the Panthers.
The Dolphins would extend its lead to seven in the home half of the fourth inning with five runs on four hits. Laughridge drove in Heizer with a double before Maffei closed out the scoring in the game with a two out grand slam to left. Laughridge,
Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) and
Kierstyn Bourdeau (Cheshire, Conn.) all scored on the home run.
Maffei finished the contest 4-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored and six RBI. Guerra went 2-for-4 with two runs and Lee, Heizer, Bourdeau and Cerbone all closed the game with two hits.
Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) wrapped up game two 3-for-5 with a run.
Davis picked up the win in game two for Mount Saint Vincent and moved to 6-2 on the season. She did not allow an earned run and surrendered six hits. She struck out seven Old Westbury hitters and walked two.
With the sweep on Thursday, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 17-4 overall on the season and to 7-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday when they play host to Purchase. First pitch at Sarah Lawrence College is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
