Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Bronx, N.Y. – Behind freshman Mackenzie Heizer's (Vacaville, Calif.) fifth win of the season in game one and a 14 strikeout performance from junior Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) in game two, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team downed St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday by scores of 3-0 and 3-2 in eight innings.

Heizer moved to 5-1 on the season in game one after allowing just one hit and one walk. She struck out nine St. Joseph's hitters in the game, giving her 54 punch outs on the season. She lowered her earned run average to 3.50 on the season and is allowing opponent's to hit just .205 against her.

Heizer would get all the run support she needed in the third inning of game one, when the Dolphins plated all three of their runs in the game. The Mount recorded five hits in the inning, including a two-out, two-run single from Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) and a run scoring base hit from Casey Cuccio (Medford, N.Y.).

After the Dolphins plated their three runs, Heizer set down the final 12 hitters she faced in order, including five of her nine strikeouts in the game.

Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) and Celestina Alfaro (Norwalk, Calif.) each went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the game. Guerra hit her fourth triple of the season for the game's only extra base hit. Maffei finished up 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

After stifling the Lady Bears in game one, the Dolphins struck quickly in game two with a first inning run. After Davis singled with two outs in the inning and advanced on a wild pitch, she was delivered with a run scoring single off the bat of Heizer.

The one run lead would stand until St. Joseph's finally got on the board in the third inning when Cassandra Molinari singled to left field to plate Jackie Perillo to knot the score at 1-1.

The game would remain tied at one into the seventh when the Dolphins put the first two runners on in the inning via walk. Rianna Laughridge (Vacaville, Calif.) singled through the left side, but the Mount had the winning run cut down at the plate for the first out of the inning. The next two hitters would be retired with the winning run in scoring position, sending the game into extra innings.

With the international tie breaker rule in effect, St. Joseph's would move in front in the eighth on a run scoring double from Samantha Rossi. The double pushed across the Lady Bear's starting pitcher, Jamilynn McGowan, with the go ahead run.

Trailing 2-1, the Dolphins had the tying run cut down at the plate for the first out in the eighth, but took advantage of a Lady Bear miscue to get the game knotted at 2-2. Maffei scored the equalizer in game two before Brittany Lee (Newton, N.J.) drove home the winning run with a lined single to third. Guerra crossed to give the Dolphins their ninth win of the season.

Guerra closed the game 2-for-4 for the Dolphins with a run scored, with Maffei and Davis each recording a hit and a run. Heizer and Lee each drove in runs for Mount Saint Vincent in game two.

Davis struck out a season-high 14 batters in the game for the Mount as she moved to 3-1 on the season. She allowed six hits, two walks and one earned run.

With Tuesday's sweep, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 9-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back on the field Wednesday when they travel to York. First pitch with the Cardinals is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
