Mount Saint Vincent Slips Past Alvernia In Overtime

Ngaba nets game winner for the Dolphins

Box Score Reading, Pa. – Sophomore Germain Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season late in overtime and freshman Michael Puchalski (Yorktown, N.Y.) tallied three times as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team posted a 7-6 overtime win at Alvernia on Saturday.
 
The Dolphins fell behind by two scores early in the first quarter on Saturday, before Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) and Puchalski scored 21 seconds apart late in the frame to knot the score at 2-2 after 15 minutes of play.
 
Mount Saint Vincent took its first lead of the game 1:10 into the third stanza when Puchalski potted his second goal of the game to give the Mount a 3-2 advantage. Jared Toll would evened the score at 3-3 for Alvernia before the Dolphins got goals from Puchalski and John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the final four minutes to take a 5-3 lead.
 
Thomas Warwick and Rick Reid pulled the Crusaders even with back-to-back goals before Brandon Brown found the scoring column for the first time this season to move the Mount back in front 6-5. Reid answered with his second goal of the game to deadlock the game at 6-6 with 17 seconds left in regulation before Ngaba tallied the game winner in the final minute of the extra session to send Mount Saint Vincent to its second win to open the season.
 
Puchalski closed out the game with three goals to push his team leading total to seven on the season. Ngaba finished with a goal and an assist and won eight face-offs for the Dolphins. He also picked up a team-high nine groundballs in the game.
 
McEnaney and Petito picked up seven groundballs each in the game to go along with a goal and Chris Summo (Bronx, N.Y.) collected five groundballs.
 
Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for the Mount with 10 saves. He added four groundballs. Brandon Weaver made 21 saves for Alvernia in the loss.
 
Mount Saint Vincent posted a 47-28 advantage in shots in the game, including a 26-18 edge in shot on target. Groundballs went the way of the Dolphins 59-49, while Alvernia won nine of the 17 face-offs taken in the game.
 
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 2-0 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look for their third straight win on March 12 when they travel to Emerson. Face-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
