Riverdale, N.Y. – Senior
Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) did not allow an earned run in 7.1 innings pitched and
Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and
Nicholas Pace (Cranford, N.J.) ripped run scoring doubles as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team scored a 4-1 league victory over Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon.
Rush worked a season-high 7.1 innings on Saturday allowing just one unearned run on five hits. He surrendered a pair of walks and fanned four Farmingdale State hitters in moving to 2-2 on the season.
Joseph Crosser (Cutchogue, N.Y.) came on and completed the game, earning his first save with the Dolphins, allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings pitched.
The Dolphins would give Rush all the run support he would need with a pair of tallies in the home half of the third inning. After
Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) and
Casey Surdi (West Babylon, N.Y.) singled and advanced on an error,
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) drove home the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single for the eventual deciding run.
Mount Saint Vincent went on to add insurance runs in the fourth and fifth to open a 4-0 advantage. Pace chased home
Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) with a two-out, two-run double in the fourth before Esposito plated Rivera with his fifth double of the season.
Leading by four runs, the Mount allowed the Rams' only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning. Andrew Karkota plated Farmingdale State's only run with a two-out double in the inning. After the double, the Rams would manage just one more base hit in their final two at-bats.
Rivera was the only Mount Saint Vincent player with more than one hit in the game after going 2-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Schroeher and Surdi each collected a hit and a run scored for Mount Saint Vincent.
With Saturday's win, Mount Saint Vincent climbs to within a game of the .500 mark at 8-9 overall and improves to a perfect 3-0 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action on April 1 when they host John Jay. First pitch at Van Cortlandt Park is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
