Dolphins Shutout Maccabees Twice

Purchase, N.Y. – Behind complete game shutouts from both Cristian Lynch (Mastic, N.Y.) and Evan Brown (St. Albans, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent swept Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Friday by scores of 13-0 and 24-0. Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) scored six times for the Mount over the two games.
 
The Dolphins jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on the Maccabees after plating two runs in each of their first two at-bats. Tyler Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) drove in the game's initial run with a first inning sacrifice fly and Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) pushed across the second run with a bases loaded walk.
 
In the two run second inning, Schroeher scored on a wild pitch before Josh Sahrpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) delivered Casey Surdi (West Babylon, N.Y.) with an RBI single.
 
Leading 4-0, the Dolphins would score nine runs in their final three at-bats, including a six run seventh inning. Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) doubled home a run in the seventh before Surdi chased home two runners with a single. Sharpe closed out the scoring in the game with a single through the left side that pushed Surdi across with the final run of the game.
 
Surdi, Sideli and Sharpe each collected two hits and scored two runs in Friday's opener with Schroeher crossing three times for the Mount. Sharpe and Rivera were each hit with two pitches and Sharpe closed out the game with five stolen bases.
 
Lynch allowed just two base hits as he moved to 1-0 on the season. He worked 7.0 shutout innings for the Dolphins, striking out five and allowing two walks.
 
Mount Saint Vincent put game two away early on Friday with a 12 run first inning. The Dolphins recorded nine hits in the frame with Steven Giustino (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) driving home two runs with a triple to right center field and Sharpe delivering two more with a single. Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) also drove home two runs for Mount Saint Vincent in the inning.
 
The Dolphins would go on to plate seven runs in the fourth inning to open a 19-0 lead and closed out its scoring with a five run sixth inning. Sideli picked up two more RBI in the fourth and Giustino posted his second run scoring triple of the game in the inning. Surdi closed out a big day with a three-run triple in the sixth inning for Mount Saint Vincent.
 
Seven Mount Saint Vincent players finished game two with multiple hits with Giustino going 4-for-5 for the Dolphins. He scored a pair of runs and drove in three in the win. Sideli finished up 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.
 
Surdi and Sharpe each finished the game with two hits, three runs and three RBI for the Dolphins, while Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored.
 
Brown went the distance in game two completing his first game and first shutout. He moved to 1-0 on the season after allowing three hits and one walk. He fanned four Yeshiva hitters for the Mount.
 
With the sweep, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 7-9 overall on the season and to 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to get to the .500 mark on Saturday when they play host to Farmingdale State. First pitch with the Rams is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
