Dolphins Drop Two At Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team dropped two Skyline Conference decisions on Sunday afternoon at Farmingdale State, falling 8-4 and 14-0 to the Rams. Freshman Brittany Lee (Newton, N.J.) combined for three hits over the two games.
 
Mount Saint Vincent fell behind early in game one on Sunday when the Rams tallied three times in the home half of the second inning. Farmingdale State recorded three hits in the inning, including a run scoring double off the bat of Lori Michalowski and a two-run double from Meagan Anderson with two outs in the inning.
 
The Dolphins answered back with two runs in the top of the third to close the deficit to 3-2, taking advantage of two base hits and a Farmingdale State error. Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) and Lee recorded back-to-back singles with two outs in the inning and were delivered on a two-out error in right field.
 
The two teams would trade unearned runs, before Farmingdale State opened a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth after a run scoring groundout and a run scoring single from Marissa Monaco. The Rams would spread their lead out to 8-3 with two runs in the sixth before the Dolphins plated an unearned run in their final at-bat to close out the scoring in the game. Andrea Klarman delivered an RBI single in the two-run sixth for the Rams.
 
Four Farmingdale State players finished with two hits in the game as the Rams outhit the Dolphins 10-7. Anderson finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI with Victoria D'Alessandro scoring twice for Farmingdale State.
 
Lee was the only Mount Saint Vincent player with more than one hit in the opener, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.), Davis and Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) all wrapped up game one with a hit and a run scored for the Mount.
Davis took the loss in the circle for the Dolphins and fell to 2-1 on the season. She allowed six earned runs on 10 hits, striking out two in 6.0 innings of work. Taylor Tedeschi earned the win for the Rams, allowing just one earned run in moving to 3-5 on the season.
 
In game two, Farmingdale State used a pair of six runs inning to pull away from the Dolphins. After plating two runs in the first inning, the Rams strung together seven hits in the second to plate six runs and move in front 8-0. Five different players drove in a run for the home standing Rams in the inning.
 
The Rams would put the game away with six more runs on six hits in the fourth to close out the scoring in the game. Anderson delivered two runs in the frame with a two-run ground rule double with two outs in the inning.
 
Anderson had a second big game for Farmingdale State, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI in game two. Michelle Mongiello finished 3-for-3 with three runs and Michalowski closed the game 3-for-3 with a run and two driven in.
 
Maffei and Lee each recorded singles in the game for the Dolphins to account for the only two hits in the game. The Mount was outhit in the game 15-2.
 
Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) suffered the first loss of her career in game two and fell to 2-1 on the season. She struck out three and walked two in 4.0 innings pitched. Taylor Webb moved to 5-2 for the Rams, allowing just the two hits in the game and fanning two.
 
Sunday's sweep drops Mount Saint Vincent to 4-2 overall on the season and to 2-2 in league play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on March 27 when they head to New Rochelle for a non-conference twinbill with the Blue Angels. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
