Mount Saint Vincent Downs John Jay, Collects Fifth Straight Win

New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball squad picked up its fifth straight win on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-0 road victory at John Jay. Zahedi Castillo (Bronx, N.Y.) earned the win for the Dolphins and Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) and Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each collected three RBI in the game.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got all the scoring it would need in the first inning on Wednesday, plating three runs on three base hits. After a walk to Robert Drake (Staten Island, N.Y.) and a double from Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.), Rivera drove both home with a two-run single. Sideli later chased Rivera home with the third run of the inning with a single.
 
The 3-0 lead would stand until the Dolphins got a fourth run in the sixth inning on a Michael Kuzczinski (Millstone Township, N.J.) RBI single and then spread the lead to 5-0 with a run scoring single from Rivera in the seventh. The Mount closed out the scoring in the game with a two-run single from Sideli in the top of the ninth.
 
The Dolphins outhit the Bloodhounds 11-3 in the game and had seven players with at least one safety. Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) was one of three Mount Saint Vincent players with multiple hits after going 2-for-5 with a double out of the leadoff spot. Rivera finished the game 2-for-2 with three walks, two runs scored and three RBI.
 
Sideli closed out a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a run and three RBI, while Drake and Schroeher each scored twice. Sideli stole a pair of bases in the game for the Dolphins.
 
Castillo picked up the win after working the first 3.0 innings, allowing just one John Jay hit. Evan Brown (St. Albans, N.Y.) came on to work 4.0 scoreless innings, picking up two strikeouts and Joseph Crosser (Cutchogue, N.Y.) came on to work the final inning, recording a pair of strikeouts.
 
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 5-6 overall on the season heading into Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will host league foe Mount Saint Mary on Saturday, with first pitch for the twinbill set for 12:00 p.m.
