Bronx, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team opened the 2014 season in impressive fashion on Tuesday afternoon, downing Lehman by scores of 18-5 and 9-0. Freshman

Mackenzie Heizer (Vacaville, Calif.) picked up her first career win with a no-hitter in game two.
Mount Saint Vincent would score at least one run in each of its first four at-bats in game one on Tuesday, exploding for 14 tallies in the fourth. The Dolphins broke a 2-2 tie in the third when
Leeann Cerbone (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in a run with a walk and Heizer later scored on a wild pitch.
Lehman climbed back to within 4-3 with a single run in the home half of the third inning before Mount Saint Vincent recorded 12 hits and plated 14 runs in the fourth to put the game away. Heizer doubled home two runs in the inning for the Dolphins and finished with three RBI. Laughridde connected on her first career home run in the fourth, a three-run shot to close out the scoring in the game for the Mount.
Mount Saint Vincent finished game one with 16 hits and had five players with multiple hits in the contest.
Kathleen Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI in the game and Heizer finished up 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI.
Laughride also collected three hits, going 3-for-4 with three runs and four driven in.
Kierstyn Bourdeau (Cheshire, Conn.) drove in two runs in the win and doubled for one of the team's five extra base hits.
Danielle Maffei (Valhalla, N.Y.) and
Kathryn Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) each drove in a pair of runs for the Dolphins.
Davis collected the win and moved to 1-0 on the season after holding Lehman to three earned runs on seven hits. She fanned 10 in her first start of the season and allowed just two walks.
In game two Heizer dominated the Lightning, not allowing a hit and allowing just one walk and hitting one batter. She fanned 20 in her first career start for the Dolphins and reached base twice at the plate with two walks.
The Dolphins got the game deciding run in the top half of the first when Maffei tripled home
Celestina Alfaro (Norwalk, Calif.) with one out in the inning.
The Mount would add three runs on the strength of RBI doubles from
Casey Cuccio (Medford, N.Y.) and
Joann Guerra (Bronx, N.Y.) and plated two more in the fourth to open a 6-0 lead. The Dolphins closed out the scoring with three tallies in their last at-bat, with Maffei collecting another RBI with a two-out single.
Maffei finished game two 2-for-5 with three RBI, while Guerra went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI out of the leadoff spot. Cuccio closed the contest 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring three times.
With the sweep, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 2-0 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Thursday when they travel to York. First pitch with the Cardinals is scheduled for 3:30 p.m
