Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team moved to 6-4 at the Peter Jay Sharp Center this season with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-16 non-conference sweep of Sarah Lawrence on Monday night. Freshman
Jacob Johnson (Henderson, Nev.) led the offensive attack for the Dolphins with 11 kills.
After leading wire-to-wire in the first set, the Dolphins trailed only briefly in the early going of both the second and third stanzas. A three point run gave the Gryphons a 3-2 lead in the middle set on Monday and a four point spurt in the third frame gave the visitors their largest lead of the night at 6-3.
After the three point run in the second, the Dolphins allowed Sarah Lawrence to score consecutive tallies just twice the rest of the stanza and in the third used a seven point run, keyed by a pair of Johnson kills, to pull in front 10-6.
Mount Saint Vincent finished the night with a 28-14 edge in kills, with Sarah Lawrence hitting -.095 for the match. The Dolphins also held the advantage in total team blocks 4-1 and service aces 12-2.
Johnson closed out a strong night with a match-high in kills, while hitting .286 for the Dolphins. He also totaled eight digs and three aces.
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) chipped in with six kills and
Anthony Woods (West Palm Beach, Fla.) added four kills, three aces and a pair of blocks in his first career match.
Junior
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led all players in the match with 26 assists to go along with three digs, two blocks and a match-high four service aces.
T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) contributed four winners and a match-high 10 digs to the winning effort.
With the win on Monday, Mount Saint Vincent moves its overall record to 9-5 on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday for three non-conference matches at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. Matches get underway at 11:30 a.m.
