Men’s Lacrosse Suffers First Loss Of The Season At Rosemont

Rosemont, Pa. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team had its three game winning streak stopped on Saturday with a 14-7 road loss at Rosemont. Senior John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman Charles Lloyd (Wheatley, N.Y.) each scored twice for the Dolphins.
 
The first quarter featured seven goals and saw the Dolphins get two goals just over 40 seconds apart late in the stanza to knot the score at 3-3. Petito and Frank Maddaloni (Bronx, N.Y.) brought the Mount even in the final two minutes before Justin Regan scored in the final half minute to give Rosemont a 4-3 advantage after 15 minutes.
 
Rosemont would open an 11-5 lead over the next 30 minutes of game action, outscoring Mount Saint Vincent 7-2 in the second and third quarters. The Ravens scored four of the five goals in the second stanza and posted three straight goals coming out of halftime. Lloyd tallied a goal in both the second and third periods to account for the Dolphins' only offense.
 
The two teams would alternate goals in the fourth quarter, with Rosemont keeping its lead at at least six tallies over the final 15 minutes. Michael Puchalski (Yorktown, N.Y.) and Petito netted goals in the final stanza, in which the Dolphins were outscored 3-2.
 
Lloyd led the Mount with three points after adding an assist to his two markers. He also picked up five groundballs for the Dolphins on Saturday. Petito also picked up five groundballs and moved into second place on the team in both goals with seven and points with 11 with his scoring output against the Ravens.
 
Maddaloni and Germain Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) equaled the team-high with eight groundballs each with Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) chipping with two groundballs and two points on a goal and an assist. Ngaba won nine face-offs on the day and caused a turnover.
 
Will Lawlor led the way for Rosemont with four goals and five points, while Rasool Smith scored twice and assisted on two other goals. Regan potted three goals and Ralph Ibezim recorded a goal and two assists. Dean Grisoff won nine face-offs for the Ravens and picked up a game-high nine groundballs.
 
Mount Saint Vincent used a pair of goalies in the game with Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Ben Gashi combining to make seven saves. Kalibat closed the day with five groundballs. Brody Safranek stopped 19 shots in the win for the Ravens.
 
Overall, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Rosemont 46-32. Rosemont finished with the edge in groundballs 52-50 and won 16 of the 25 face-offs taken.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-1 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on March 19 when they travel to Mitchell. Face-off with the Mariners in new London, Conn. Is set for 4:00 p.m.
