Chestertown, Md. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team had its season opening losing streak extended to six games on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 loss at Washington College. Senior
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) picked up two hits for the Mount and classmate
Brian Rush (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) worked 5.0 innings on the mound.

For the first time this season, the Dolphins allowed their opponent to score first when the Shoremen opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning. After the first two hitters of the inning reached, Bryan Baquer delivered the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly.

The Shoremen would hold the one run advantage until the top of the third inning when the Dolphins broke through to knot the score at 1-1. With two outs and no one on,
Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) doubled and moved to third on a single from
Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Shape followed with an infield single to shortstop to drive in his fifth run of the season.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when Washington plated the final two runs of the game. After a leadoff triple from Scott Matthews, Nick Marinelli plated the game winning run with a double to left field. Matthews would later cross with an insurance run on a run scoring groundout with one out in the inning.

Following the Sharpe single in the third, Mount Saint Vincent would record just two more hits the rest of the way.
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) singled with two outs in the sixth and
Craig Weber (Mineola, N.Y.) singled in the ninth. The Dolphins would get the tying run aboard in their last at-bat but stranded runners and first and second.

Sharpe was the only Mount Saint Vincent player with more than one hit in the game, going 2-for-4 with the Mount's only RBI.
Keith Brodesser (Copiague, N.Y.) walked twice for the Dolphins and Schroeher hit his second double of the season for the Mount's lone extra base hit.

Washington had three players with multiple hits in the game, with Matthews going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs. Marinelli picked up two hits to go along with a run and an RBI and Garrett Richardello finished up 2-for-3.

Rush took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent and fell to 0-2 after allowing two earned runs in 5.0 innings. He surrendered five hits, struck out three and walked three for the Dolphins.
Tyler Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) came on to work 3.0 scoreless innings and has now worked 11.0 innings to start the season without allowing a run on just four hits.

Dan Jarrell was one of four Washington pitchers on the day. He earned the win after allowing one run on five hits in 6.0 innings. He struck out six and walked only one in moving to 1-1 on the season. Logan Dubbe notched the save with a scoreless inning of work.

Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-6 overall on the season. The Dolphins will open the home schedule on March 15 when they take on cross-town rival Lehman. First pitch with the Lightning is set for 1:00 p.m.
