Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team had its three match winning streak stopped at the hands of visiting Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday night by set scores of 12-25, 18-25 and 14-25. Freshman
Jacob Johnson (Henderson, Nev.) led the Mount with nine kills in the match.

Mount Saint Vincent led only briefly on Tuesday, grabbing leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 6-5 in the second set. The Mount would get back to within 13-12 in the second stanza, but saw the Scarlet Raiders go on a 12-6 spurt to close out the frame and grab the two set advantage.

Rutgers-Newark hit better than .300 in all three sets on Tuesday, including a red-hot .444 in the second stanza. The Scarlet Raiders put away 16 kills in 27 attempts in the frame and committed just four attack errors as a team.

The Dolphins' most efficient set of the night also came in the second when they hit .129 as a unit. Mount Saint Vincent totaled nine winners in the middle set in 31 swings, committing five attack errors as a team.

Travis Mintzer led eight different Rutgers-Newarks players with at least one kill with nine winners on the night while hitting .667 for the match. He added three digs and five total blocks to the winning effort. Brett Pickens added seven kills in the win and eight block assists for the visitors.

Kevin McCandless posted a double-double with a match-high 32 assists and 10 digs and was one of seven Scarlet Raiders with at least one total block in the match.

Johnson wrapped up the night equaling the match-high of nine kills for Mount Saint Vincent and also picked up two total blocks in the contest.
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) closed out the night with six kills and four digs for the Dolphins.

James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the Mount with 18 assists on the night and posted four digs, while freshman libero
T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) lifted five digs.
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) totaled two kills and a team-high three blocks.

Overall in the contest, Rutgers-Newark held the edge in kills 38-22 and hit an efficient .377 as a team. Neither team recorded a service aces in the match, but the Scarlet Raiders dominated the blocking battle, posting a 12-5 advantage in total team blocks.

Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 5-3 overall on the season and to 2-3 at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. The Dolphins will look to rebound on the road Thursday night when they travel to York. Match time with the Cardinals is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
