Union, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team rebounded from Friday's loss to Fontbonne with a pair of Skyline Conference victories on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins downed Purchase in four sets by scores of 21-25, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-9 and then took down Sage in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-23. Freshman
Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.) finished with a total of 25 kills on the day, including a career-high 16 against Sage.
After dropping the first set to Purchase, Mount Saint Vincent rallied to take the next three to collect its second league win of the season. The Dolphins closed out the victory by hitting .429 in the fourth set, putting away 11 kills and making just a pair of attack errors.
Junior
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) posted double-figures in kills for the first time this season after recording a season-high 15 kills against the Panthers. He hit an efficient .571 in the match and added three digs and a pair of blocks for the Dolphins.
Jacob Johnson (Henderson, Nev.) reached double-figures in kills for the third straight match against Purchase, putting away a career best 13 winners and adding two digs and three blocks. Cucullu added nine kills, six digs and three aces against Purchase and
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) chipped in with eight kills and nine digs.
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) wrapped up Saturday's opener with 35 assists, matching his season-high, and added eight digs and a pair of kills. Freshman
T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) lifted eight digs in the support of the win for the Mount.
Overall against Purchase, Mount Saint Vincent held a 48-26 advantage in kills and hit .241 as a team. The Dolphins also posted a 6-2 edge in service aces, while Purchase held a 7-6 edge in total team blocks.
In the second match of the day, Mount Saint Vincent took care of Sage in straight sets to remain perfect in league play through three matches. The Dolphins recorded at least 14 kills in each of the three sets against the Gators and hit .367 in the middle stanza to take a 2-0 lead in the contest.
Cucullu continued his strong early season play with a career-high 16 kills for the Mount. He hit .333 for the Dolphins in the contest and recorded his first career double-double after lifting a career-high 10 digs. He rounded out a strong day with an ace and two blocks against Sage.
Johnson also reached double-figures in kills with 12 winners while posting a .296 hitting percentage to go along with five digs. Kolodny contributed eight kills, four digs and two aces to the winning effort for Mount Saint Vincent.
DiGiovanni handed out 35 more assists against Sage and is averaging 10.5 helpers per set over the team's last three outings. He added nine digs and two kills for the Dolphins, while Barczik led the Mount with 12 digs in the victory.
Mount Saint Vincent closed the match with a 45-27 advantage in kills and three of the five service aces in the match. Mount dominated the blocking battle against the Gators with a 7-1 advantage in the match.
Following Saturday's results, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 4-2 overall on the season and at a perfect 3-0 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will return to the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Monday evening when they play host to Lehman. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m.
