Riverdale, N.Y. – Making its first ever appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team suffered a hard fought 2-1 loss to fifth seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore
Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.) was the Mount's goal scorer, netting his eight goal of the season.
Jardines got Mount Saint Vincent off to a good start on Sunday with the team's lone marker of the day. He took a pass from
Andrew Gomez (Sun City, Calif.) inside the box and tucked a shot inside of the right post to give Mount Saint Vincent a 1-0 lead just 1:54 into the game.
The Dolphins would maintain the one goal advantage until the Golden Eagles potted two goals in a six minute stretch to pull in front in the middle stages of the first half. Chris Hall knotted the score at 1-1 in the 18
th minute when he finished off a pass from Gaetano Innamorato 17:24 into the tilt.
St. Joseph's would get the eventual game winning goal in the 24
th minute when Alex Guadagno tallied his fourth of the season at 23:27. He netted the game winner off a passing play from Enrique Tirado and Brian O'Sullivan to give the visitors the lead for good in the game.
In a tightly contested first half, St. Joseph's held an 8-5 advantage in shots, while the Mount took all three corner kicks in the half. Both
David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Avery Gomez made two saves in the first half on Sunday.
Neither team would find the back of the net after halftime, but both squads had chances. St. Joseph's had a shot blocked inside the box early in the second half and a
Dennis Reyes (Waldwick, N.J.) header hit the post with just under seven minutes left in regulation.
Jardines finished the game with two shots and became the second player to record at least 20 points in 2014 with his goal. Gomez led the Dolphins with three shots in the game and recorded his team leading sixth assist of the season on the Jardines goal.
Melchor closed the game with two stops for the Dolphins and rounds out the season with 88 saves and a 2.19 goals against average. Gomez also stopped two shots, earning the win for the Golden Eagles.
Mount Saint Vincent outshot St. Joseph's 7-2 after halftime and 12-10 in the game. The Dolphins also finished the game with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks and fouls in the game were called against the Golden Eagles 11-10.
Sunday's loss closes Mount Saint Vincent's season with a 9-10 overall record.
