Mount Saint Vincent Hosts Albertus Magnus In 2014 Season Opener

Dolphins play first of 15 home matches on Wednesday night

Riverdale, N.Y. – Under the direction of new head coach Nelson Kwok, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team will kick-off the 2014 season on Wednesday night at the Peter Jay Sharp Center against Albertus Magnus. The match is the first of 25 overall in 2014 and the first of 15 at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.
 
The Dolphins, who were picked to finish sixth in the Skyline Conference in 2014, return six players from last season's team. Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) returns for his junior season after leading the team in kills with 218, kills per set with 2.37, total blocks with 50 and points with 261 as a sophomore. For his career Holiday has totaled 368 kills and 100 total blocks in two seasons.
 
Senior Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) is back for his third season with the Dolphins and is coming off a 2013 season that saw him post a team-high 41 service aces. Kolodny was second on the team last season in digs with 178 and finished off the season with 154 kills and 35 total blocks. He earned a Skyline Conference Player of the Week award last season and was a Second Team All-League selection following the 2012 campaign.
 
Junior James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) is back as the team's primary setter and was one of four players last season to appear in all 28 of Mount Saint Vincent's matches. He handed out 622 assists, good for a 6.76 per set average, and was third on the team with 42 total blocks. DiGiovanni lifted 133 digs for the Dolphins in 2013 and totaled 36 kills and 28 service aces.
 
Mount Saint Vincent will also welcome back juniors Reginald Owens (Staten Island, N.Y), Raphael Castillo (Bronx, N.Y.) and Kristopher Jones (Staten Island, N.Y.). Owens appeared in 35 sets last season and totaled 10 kills and 16 total blocks, while Castillo appeared in 13 sets and Jones appeared in 40 sets for the Dolphins.
 
The Dolphins will look to a strong group of newcomers for immediate production in 2014. The incoming class includes: Tyler Cucullu (Henderson, Nev.), T.J. Barczik (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Jacob Johnson (Henderson, Nev.).
 
Following Wednesday's season opener, Mount Saint Vincent will play two straight on the road before returning home on February 10 for a Skyline Conference match with Yeshiva.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the 2013 season with a 7-21 overall record and a 4-10 mark in Skyline Conference play.
