Brooklyn, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball squad got into the win column on Saturday after splitting a pair of non-conference matches at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The Dolphins were downed by USMMA-Kings Point 18-25, 25-22, 9-25 and 15-25, but rebounded to come-from-behind and beat the Lady Bears 25-15, 20-25, 18-25, 25-16 and 15-11 to collect their initial win of the season. Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) totaled 27 kills on the day, including a career-high 18 in the five set win.
In Saturday's opener, the Dolphins made two more attack errors then they had kills and finished the contest hitting -.022 as a unit. The Mariners put away 42 kills in the match and hit .226 to earn the win.
Leineweber paced the Dolphins' offensive attack against USMMA and registered nine kills to go along with seven digs.
Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y.) also turned in a solid effort with six winners and a team-high four service aces.
Sophomore
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) handed out 11 assists for Mount Saint Vincent and lifted six digs, while
Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) led the team with 11 digs to go along with a pair of kills.
USMMA rounded out the match with three players with at least 11 kills and was paced by 12 winners from Michelle Danhof. She also matched the match-high with five aces and lifted five digs. Jennifer Perkins and Jordy Macbeth each finished up with 11 kills and Paige Queen posted a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs.
Overall in the contest, USMMA held the edge in kills 42-22 and in service aces 19-10. Gabby Marionakis equaled the match-high with five aces for the Mariners and was one of six different players with at least two aces for USMMA.
In the second match of the day, the Mount jumped out to a one set lead on the Lady Bears before dropping sets two and three to fall behind 2-1. The Dolphins rallied to even the set in the fourth and hit .300 as a team in the fifth set to break into the win column.
Leineweber continued the strong start to her collegiate career against the Lady Bears and recorded double-figures in kills for the second time in her career with her 18. She also set a career mark in digs with 16 on her way to posting her first career double-double. She rounded out a strong all-around match with three aces and a block.
Regan picked up six more kills for Mount Saint Vincent in the win and led all players with five service aces.
Nichole Riehm (Irvington, N.Y.) put away five kills for the Dolphins to go along with two aces.
Daluz rounded out the contest with 26 assists, a season-high, four kills and 10 digs. Daluz is the team leader in double-doubles in 2013 with three.
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) lifted 13 digs in the contest and also contributed four service aces.
Lauren GaNun led the Lady Bears with 15 kills, with Megan Moran putting away eight. Sabrina Cornia handed out 31 assists and was one of five Lady Bears in double-figures in digs with a match-high 20.
Overall in the tilt, Mount Saint Vincent finished with one fewer kill then did St. Joseph's, but held a 17-5 edge in service aces.
Saturday's split moves Mount Saint Vincent to 1-10 overall on the campaign. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Thursday night when they travel to league rival NYU-POLY. The 2013 Skyline Conference opener is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
