New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent improved on its perfect start to the season on Thursday evening with a convincing 8-0 road win at Medgar Evers.
Matthew Samaan (Manalapan, N.Y.) recorded the team's second hat trick in as many games and
Pablo Tellez (El Monte, N.Y.) totaled five points for the Dolphins in the win.
Freshman
Victor Ramirez (Los Angeles, Calif.) continued his hot start to the season with his fifth goal of the year in the seventh minute to give the Dolphins a quick 1-0 advantage. He buried a feed from
Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.) for his second game winning goal of the season.
Samaan followed with back-to-back goals in the 13
th and 25
th minutes to push the lead to 3-0, before
Jorge Chavez (West Covina, Calif.) tallied twice in the final nine minutes of the first half to send Mount Saint Vincent to the intermission with a 5-0 lead. Tellez assisted on three of the final four goals of the half for the Mount.
Coming out of the break Samaan converted a give-and-go with
Tavelli Errar (Bronx, N.Y.) to complete his first career hat trick at 50:40 of the match. Ramirez followed with his second of the game and team leading sixth of the season in the 59
th minute and Tellez rounded out a strong all-around game with his third of the campaign off a feed from
Hubert Bararwandika (Bronx, N.Y.) at 72:00.
Freshman goalkeeper
David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) completed his third straight shutout to open the season and has recorded all three of the Dolphins' wins in 2013. He was forced to make one save in the game. Sadi LePrince Bodian stopped three shots in 28:00 for the Cougars.
In Thursday's contest Mount Saint Vincent showed six different players with a point and three with multiple goals. Samaan rounded out the day with seven points after adding an assist to his three markers. With his two goals on Thursday, Ramirez is the team leader with six and sits atop the team rankings in points with 12.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Medgar Evers 16-1 overall and 11-1 in shots on target. Corner kicks in the match were even at one apiece.
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 3-0 overall on the season. Next up for the Dolphins is a home match on Saturday against local foe Hunter. Kick-off at Tibbetts Brook Park is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
