Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent delivered another dominant offensive performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating SUNY Maritime, 6-1, to earn its sixth consecutive Skyline Conference victory at home. The victory firmly put the Dolphins in a position to earn a first round bye to kick off the conference postseason tournament next week.
Freshman Daniel Figueroa opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing a play assisted by junior Yahir Tafoya and freshman Cole Zent. Freshman Justin Sorto doubled the advantage less than two minutes later off a feed from classmate Jacob Rooney before junior Marti Senyer added a third goal in the 25th minute to give the Dolphins a 3-0 halftime lead.
After Maritime scored early in the second half, Sorto restored the three-goal cushion in the 61st minute, converting a pass from Figueroa. Senyer followed with his second goal of the afternoon in the 64th minute, assisted by Sorto, before junior Sean Doyle capped the scoring in the 88th minute off a pass from freshman Luis Eduardo Tello Escobar.
The Dolphins outshot Maritime, 18-8, and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Miguel Fierro made three saves in goal as UMSV completes their season with a 10-4-2 overall and 9-1-1 in Skyline play. Their Skyline record will finish as one of the two best in the conference, good enough to return to the Skyline Conference semifinal for the second straight campaign.
