Jersey City, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Volleyball team split a pair of league matches on Sunday, falling to Kean by scores of 14-25, 13-25 and 11-25 and then rebounding to sweep Yeshiva by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17. Junior
Gerard Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled 22 kills in the two matches, including 15 against Yeshiva.
In the opener against Kean on Sunday, the Dolphins were led by seven kills and a .600 hitting percentage from Fraser. He also added a block for the Mount in the match.
Brett Holiday (Stratford, N.J.) closed the contest with four kills and six digs for Mount Saint Vincent.
James DiGiovanni (Bay Shore, N.Y.) handed out 18 assists for the Mount and picked up the team's only service ace.
Timothy Kolodny (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and
Tyler Egan (Laurel Springs, N.J.) each lifted five digs in the opener.
Kean was led on the day by eight kills and two blocks from Krzyztof Kucza. The Cougars had three players with at least eight assists in the match, including a team-high nine from Josh Haimann.
Kean closed the match with a 32-19 advantage in kills and hit .338 as a team. The Cougars also held the edge in digs 21-19 and in total team blocks 4-2.
In Sunday's win over Yeshiva, Mount Saint Vincent was sparked by 28 combined kills from Fraser and Holiday. Fraser put away a career-high 15 kills and hit .286 against the Maccabees and also totaled three blocks. Holiday collected 13 winners and hit .370 and also added seven digs and three blocks.
Cedric Ellison (Worcester, Mass.) led the team with three service aces with Egan adding two and three kills. DiGiovanni recorded 34 assists against Yeshiva and lifted six digs. Kolodny also turned in a strong match with 15 digs for Mount Saint Vincent.
Yeshiva received six kills each from Daniel Lapson and Jared Rechnitz. Aaron Begin paced the Maccebees with 11 digs and Jorge Dabah handed out 17 assists and added four digs.
Mount Saint Vincent finished the match with twice as many kills as Yeshiva after putting away 40. The Dolphins also closed the contest with a 5-3 advantage in service aces, while the Maccebees finished with a 5.5-4.0 edge in total team blocks.
Sunday's split moves Mount Saint Vincent to 7-20 overall on the season and to 4-9 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they travel to NYU-POLY. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
