Bronx, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team rounded out the 2013 campaign on Sunday afternoon with two non-conference losses at Baruch, falling to the Bearcats 15-13 and 7-3. Junior
Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with three RBI in game one.
The Dolphins fell behind early in Sunday's opener after Baruch plated a pair of runs in its first at-bat. Mount Saint Vincent responded with four runs in the top half of the second to take its first lead of the game.
After
Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and
Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) reached on errors, junior
Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) got the Dolphins on the board with an RBI single. Sharpe closed out the scoring with a two-out, two-run base hit to push the Mount in front 4-2.
Baruch quickly regained the lead in the home half of the frame, matching the Dolphins' four run inning. The Bearcats got three hits in the frame, including a two-run triple off the bat of Matthew Ballone.
The game one slugfest would continue in the top of the third when Mount Saint Vincent put together its second straight four run inning to retake the lead at 8-6. Hoxha opened the scoring in the inning with a run scoring groundout that delivered
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) who led off the inning with a triple.
Esposito got the game tied at 6-6 with an RBI double and Espsosito and
Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) scored on a sacfrifice fly and error to move the Dolphins back in front.
The Mount would not be able to hold off the Bearcats as they answered with six runs in the third and two more in the fourth to push in front 15-8. Jasdeep Buttar and Nicholas Poma-Roman recorded back-to-back two-run singles in the third, with Buttar driving in another run in the fourth.
The Dolphins would mount one final comeback with five tallies in the fifth inning, but would come up two tallies short.
Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Sharpe delivered runs with singles and Rivera drove home two runs with a two-out single to bring the Dolphins to within the final two run deficit.
Mount Saint Vincent pounded out 11 hits in game one on Sunday and had four players with multiple safeties. Esposito finished up 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI and Sharpe closed the game 2-for-4 with a run and three driven in.
Rivera recorded two hits, scored twice and drove home two and
Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sideli scored twice for the Mount and Senisi produced a hit and two RBI.
Baruch had four players with two hits in the game and was led by Pomo-Roman who drove in four runs. Buttar rounded out the game 2-for-5 with three RBI and Ballone was one of three players to score three runs.
Mount Saint Vincent's
Dan DiLascio (Yonkers, N.Y.) suffered the game one loss and Joseph Cali moved to 3-1 for Baruch after earning the win with 4.2 innings of work.
In game two, the Dolphins again found themselves down early after the Bearcats plated four runs in the bottom of the first. Buttar drove in his fourth run of the day with a single in the inning and Daniel Arango chased home two runs with a base hit to close out the scoring in the inning.
The Dolphins would get on the board in the top of the fifth inning on a Tyler Krowlikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) RBI single, but Baruch got the run right back in the bottom of the inning to move its lead to 5-1.
The two teams would match each other in the sixth as well with each side plating a pair of runs. Sideli and Krowlikowski each singled home runs for the Dolphins in the frame, but Ballone hit a sacrifice fly and Philip Loprete produced a run scoring single to close out the scoring in the contest.
Mount Saint Vincent had seven different players with a hit in game two, with Krowlikowski driving home two runs. Esposito tripled for the Dolphins and scored a run and Sideli finished up 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Angel Tejada and Arango each finished the game with two hits and two RBI for Baruch with Tejada and Pomo-Roman each scoring a pair of runs.
Coogan took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent after working a complete game and striking out eight. Eric Peralta picked up the win for the Bearcats and also struck out eight.
Sunday's sweep closes Mount Saint Vincent's season with an 8-28 overall record.
