Mount Saint Vincent Tops CCNY On Senior Day

McManus earns the win, Maio goes 3-for-5

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team won its third straight game on Saturday and its fifth in the last six with a 12-2 win over CCNY on Senior Day. Senior Mike McManus (Queens, N.Y.) earned the win with 7.1 strong innings and Steven Maio (Thornwood, N.Y.) scored three runs in the victory.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got on the board early on Saturday with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. Josh Sharpe (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Maio each recorded a hit and scored a run in the frame for the Dolphins.
 
In the top of the second CCNY tied the score with back-to-back home runs from Emmanuel Nwokelo and Victor Vargas to account for the Beavers' only two runs of the contest.
 
The Dolphins would take the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fourth and tacked on a run in the fifth before exploding for six tallies in the home half of the seventh. The Mount would close out the scoring on Saturday with a single tally in the eighth.
 
Maio opened the fourth inning with a single and later crossed with his second run of the game on a double to right field from Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.). Rivera would score the second run of the inning on a failed pickoff play with two outs in the inning.
 
The six run seventh was highlighted by a straight steal of home from Sharpe with two outs in the inning. Tyler Krowlikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) drove in two runs with a single in the inning and Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) delivered Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) with a two out single.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game with 10 hits, with Maio leading the offensive attack after going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Rivera finished up 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored and Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) ripped his third double of the season.
 
Sharpe and Schroeher each scored a pair of runs in the game for the Mount with Sharpe stealing two of the Dolphins' seven bases in the game.
 
McManus earned his team leading third win of the season after allowing two earned runs on four hits. He struck out seven in the game, including fanning the side in the top of the first inning. Senior Anthony Granitto (Bronx, N.Y.) worked a scoreless inning in relief with a strikeout and classmate James Puma (Thornwood, N.Y.) worked the final 0.2 innings, picking up a strikeout.

Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 8-26 overall on the season. The Dolphins will round out the regular season on Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader at Baruch. First pitch with the Bearcats at Bronx Community College is set for 1:00 p.m.
