Bronx, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team closed out the league portion of the schedule on Thursday night with a 12-2 win over Yeshiva, completing a sweep of the 2013 season series. Senior
Rich Dionisio (West Islip, N.Y.) earned the complete game win and
Steven Maio (Thornwood, N.Y.) drove home four runs for the Dolphins.
Dionisio turned in a strong effort for the Dolphins, working his second complete game of the season. After allowing an unearned run on three hits in the first inning he surrendered just three more hits the remainder of the game and one more unearned run.
The senior left hander finished the night allowing two unearned runs on six hits and struck out five as he moved to 2-4 on the season.
Mount Saint Vincent was held off the board in its first two at-bats on Thursday, but scored 12 times in its final four turns at the plate. The Dolphins got on the board with two tallies in the third inning when
Keith Schroeher (Riverhead, N.Y.) drove home
Kevin Coogan (Bronx, N.Y.) with a single and Maio delivered Schroeher with a sacrifice fly.
The Dolphins tacked on four runs in the fourth inning. After loading the bases with no one out, Maio cleared the bags with a ringing double off the wall in left field. He later scored the fourth run of the inning after executing a double steal with
Jason Rivera (Bronx, N.Y.) with two outs in the inning.
The two teams would exchange runs in the fifth frame, before the Dolphins put the game away with five runs in the home half of the sixth.
Joseph Senisi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove home a run with an infield single to start the scoring in the inning and
Leutrim 'Tim' Hoxha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) pushed two runs across with a double.
Chris Sideli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a run scoring hit by pitch and Coogan drove home a run with a walk in the inning.
The Dolphins finished the night with a new program record for steals in a game after swiping 14 bags. Mount Saint Vincent had six players steal at least two bases, with
Mike Esposito (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) taking three.
The Mount was held to just four hits in the game with Schroeher, Senisi, Maio and Hoxha accounting for the safeties. Senisi was hit with three pitches on the night and has now been plunked 14 times, just three shy of the single season record.
Eight different players scored a run in the game for Mount Saint Vincent, with the first three hitters in the lineup all scoring twice. Coogan also scored two runs in the game for the Dolphins.
Thursday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 7-26 overall on the season and to 6-10 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back on the diamond again on Saturday when they welcome CCNY on Senior Day. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
